Lillian's POV

They called me for they kept me safe.

The body near me, lifeless and stale.

They took it away, wiping my tears and leaving a trail

With no identities, they left.

They arrived with caution,
bringing lights onto the dark uncommon.
There I sat in the silence
They lend a hand coming in sirens.

I sat by the door of the ambulance with a sling on my arm and bandages all over my body. I was told that my bone wasn't fractured, but I must take great precaution to not overuse my arm. I had no plans whatsoever to go past the extremes again any time soon. I needed the rest.

An EMT covered me with a blanket for the third time. I glared at her, but she had her back against me. Shaking my head, I returned my sight back to the road where I saw a familiar face approaching me.

I felt less claustrophobic and greeted him openly, "Why have I got this blanket? They kept putting this blanket on me."

"It's for shock," Lestrade answered, stuffing his hands in his coat pockets.

"Shock?" I mocked, flapping the edges of orange fabric to hit him. "I am no where near shock."

"Your mind hasn't processed it yet, that's okay."

"I've been on that position before, you'd be surprised." I realized how strange that sounds, and tried to rephrase it. "In movies, I mean. It... erm... felt different up close. Yeah, okay it's the shock." I surrendered, holding my head down.

There was silence between us as we watched the flashes of red and blue around us while the local police of Thetford scanned the forest area. There were a couple of townspeople standing in the streets, mumbling in their jammies and slippers.

A man wearing a bright orange reflective shirt stood among the nosy people. It was Sebastian and he subtly nodded at me. I returned the gesture and looked away before anyone could notice.

"What are you doing here by the way, Inspector?" I asked Lestrade.

"Got a call from the local town station. They told me an accurate description of you so I thought I have to go and check myself," he replied, crossing his arms.

"Don't you have better things to do in the Yard?"

Lestrade clicked his tongue. "I feel better knowing you're alright. You're safe now, that is what matters the most."

"I got myself in and out of the trouble. Actually, it's a long story of—"

"We don't need to talk about it if you don't want to," he cut, giving me sympathetic eyes. I pursed my lips and slowly nodded. I needed some time to cope.

"Thank you for coming, even though you're very late."

Lestrade chuckled, lifting his eyes back to the police cars. "You've got Sherlock and John all shaken up, especially John. They got the whole force searching for you."

I furrowed my eyebrows, dumb-founded. "I-I don't understand. They didn't need to do that, did they? There's nothing special nor valuable in me."

Lestrade's stare was fixed in front of us. "Those two would say different."

I followed his line of sight and saw Dr. Watson and Sherlock running towards us. My heart jolted a bit upon seeing them and I forgot the situation we were in for a second. Dr. Watson instantly pulled me in a hug when he arrived in front of me.

I grimaced at the sudden contact, but felt more comfortable anyway. He pulled away, studying the wounds and stitches I have on my face.

"Are you alright? Where'd you get this? Did they hurt you? Why aren't you in a hospital for Christ's sake?!"

"I'm fine," I breathed out. "I'm in shock. Look, I've got a blanket."

His face softened when he realized I was wearing an arm sling as well. I felt a pinch of regret.

"Have they caught who's behind this?" Sherlock questioned Lestrade.

"No, not yet at the least. They're still checking 'round the perimeter."

"How'd they find her?"

"I escaped, Sherlock," I answered, shifting on my seat. "Though it ended up pretty badly. But I'm fine. No need to worry anymore."

Sherlock's expression changed into something softer, then it was gone within a blink of an eye. He wanted to say something but Dr. Watson raced him to it.

"Lillian," he started, "you don't know how much we worried about you. But it's alright now, hmm? We're here now and we'll keep you safe, I promise you."

He placed his warm hand over my trembling one, and I wondered if this was his doctor instincts kicking in or he really did care and wanted me to trust them again. I clenched my jaw, blinking back forming tears in my eyes. I didn't want to be dragged into this in the first place, but maybe...

"Everything is alright?" I hesitantly lifted my gaze again. The three of them looked at me as I was a lost child, but then again — I am a lost soul.

Dr. Watson smiled a little. "Yes, everything's alright."

I quickly hopped down the ambulance, which surprised them a bit. I trudged my way to the older Holmes, who stood silently beside a silver car with his umbrella.

"Hello," I greeted in monotone.

"I owe you an apology," he returned.

"More than an apology." I narrowed my eyes at him, waiting for him to speak.

"It was insensitive and too straightforward of me to tell you of your own business. But then, your information is part of state secrets now and became under the protection program," Mycroft stated.

I hugged the blanket tighter to my body, feeling a gust of wind swept in.

"It is true you are the reason I was kidnapped and also adopted in the first place, but let us not get into details." I paused, trying to see if he knew what I was talking about. He stayed silent. "So next time, if you please, settle a fight with someone as powerful as you more... peacefully."

I took a step closer to him, holding my chin up to meet his empty yet glaring eyes and frown. "I do forgive you, but it doesn't mean I don't hold grudges."

"I am pleased to hear that." His lips only fell again in a straight line.

. . .

We stayed in the scene for a while since I've been questioned by the police investigators. Sherlock helped a little, Dr. Watson scolded him again for showing off. When the last question was asked, the answer given and the officer walked away, I let out a deep breath, slumping my shoulders and sitting between Sherlock and Dr. Watson.

"I'll get the car ready for the three of you," Lestrade told us, making his way to his car.

"There is a lot more we need to talk about if you wish to stay with us in Baker Street," Sherlock informed me.

I held my hand up in front of him. "You gotta hold that for later, Sherlock. Right now, I am very hungry." On cue, my stomach started growling. The last thing I ate was popcorn from several hours ago.

"Dinner?" Dr. Watson asked, looking down at me.

"Starving."
