A Truly Perfect Birthday

It's like nine in the morning, I've been working on a regimen suggestion for whoever gets appointed to be captain. I spoke to Rin about it and he said that he's torn between three candidates; all of which are some of my best friends. I am halfway through my second copy of the regimen when the constant pounding at the front door, that Rei said he would deal with annoys me so much that I leave my room to see what's going on.

"Rei-chaaaaaannn!" Nagisa is hammering at the door. "Please let me in!"

I hear Nagisa whining as Rei holds the door to the apartment closed half heartedly, as if he is debating letting his hyperactive blond boyfrend in.

"Nagisa-kun, Akira will hear you!" Rei chides through the door.

"He'll hear you too." I giggle, shoving my brother away from the door to let Nagisa in. It looks as if he had begun a running charge at the door since I am knocked over by a wailing cherubic blond.

"Ow." I rub the back of my neck.

"Aoi-chan!" Nagisa looks shocked.

"I live here too Nagisa." I snigger.

"Here." Rei holds his hands out to us, he pulls his boyfriend up first, since he was almost laying on top of me. He then pulls me to my feet.

"Morning Rei. Morning Aoi. Morning Nagisa-kun." Mum walks through the living room toward the kitchen for a coffee most likely. "Happy birthday, you two. Your cousins will be here soon to take you guys out. Aoi, who did you invite? Did you eventually choose one friend to go with?"

"Didn't you invite Mako-chan?" Nagisa enquires.

"Makoto-senpai is still touring his university." Rei shakes his head. I sigh.

Makoto said that he was sorry that he wouldn't be home for my birthday. He was so distressed. It didn't bother me too much, especially since he's been texting me all morning. He's really sad that he's not here for my birthday though. It's really sweet if you ask me. Fubuki thought it would be weird of me not to understand that I am not Makoto's top priority all of the time, especially since he's chasing a teaching career. He thought it would be hilarious to have me sulk like a bratty girlfriend...and I think Sho had commented that they were describing Mei... I try not to giggle.

"Hello? Aoi, did you choose someone?" I am asked.

It took forever to choose someone to go with me, Aya-chan and most likely Jun also. I didn't want to invite Rin and have him be away from his exam revision. It would be unfair to invite Fubuki and not his Kaito, his ex-boyfriend and best friend. They broke up during the summer even though they were only meant to be dating for a month. I'm not insanely close with Hinata, Sho or Kenta so it would be pretty awkward to force my family on them. Mei-chan and Ami-chan are apparently looking after the unwell Minishiba, Mikoshiba Momo. The only one of my friends who was availbale today was Nito', one of Rin's candidates for the spot as captain. As soon as Nationals was over, we were allowed to train as much or as little as we pleased while Rin asessed who, out of the second years, should be the captain of the swim team.

"I invited Nito'." I state.

"Ai-chan!" Nagisa's eyes sparkle.

I can feel the tension that will build during the course of this trip already, and Nito' hasn't even arrived.

"Nagisa-kun, you know that Aiichiro-san doesn't appreciate being called 'Ai-chan'." My twin sighs.

"Whaa? But Ai-chan is Ai-chan!" his boyfriend protests.

Looks like they're squabbling over Nagisa's '-chan' habit. He always got so het up when Nagisa called him 'Rei-chan' and now he gets jealous of him calling anybody else, outside of the Iwatobi team '-chan'. It's funny how things turn out.
