It was hot. Very hot. Jasper was still sleeping and he had kicked his sleeping bag off to the side. I rolled up my bag and took a drink of water.
I walked towards the front of the cave and very nearly died. The entire floor was covered in 4 feet of lava. There wasn't anything in the lava and as far as I was aware there were no cannons.
So I decided to get out. I strapped my sword across my back and scaled the wall up to another ledge. I sat, partially hidden, and looked around.
The wave of lava was flowing downhill and would be gone in a few hours. All we could do was wait for it to pass.
No one was in our area so we were safe. As jasper still slept, I ventured deeper into my cave.
Soon enough I came to a dead end, but light was still visible. I searched the wall, looking for cracks or crevices.
Towards the top, there was a hole, large enough for the sword to fit through. I stuck it through and pulled down. The rocks tumbled loosely around my feet.
The cave opened up and I continued forward. I walked for a few minutes until I heard voices. I crouched down, into the shadows and unsheathed my sword.
"WHEN WILL THIS FREAKIN LAVA PASS?!" A male voice screamed. Obviously he was outraged. "More blood must be spilt!"
Hayley, it had to be that freak child Hayley. That must mean his sister Kenzie was here too.
"I know, but that lava is too hot to mess with." There she was. But I heard another person. Their breathing is ragged and they're probably hiding like me.
"Wait!" Hayley said. The cave went silent, but the breathing continued. I ducked behind a rock.
The footsteps got louder and louder. And then they stopped. My hiding rock was rolled away and I was crouched in front of Hayley.
I lept forward swinging my sword. Hayley cried out an Kenzie advanced me. Hayley crawled out of the cave and I was fighting Kenzie. And loosing.
She cut my arm and I was pretty bruised and ready to accept defeat. But Richard jumped out from nowhere. He stabbed Kenzie and threw her into the flames of the fire. Screaming and then BOOM. she was dead.
Richard looked horrible his left arm was in a sling and a makeshift splint was tied to his leg. He had two black eyes and was missing a tooth.
I hugged him lightly, so not to hurt him. He sat down, exhausted from the effort to save me.
In quiet, I replaced all his bandaged and gave him some medicine. We sat silently, feasting on the little food the Twins had managed to get.
We had stuffed ourselves full and we're going through their supplies. I picked up a bow and a quiver of arrows and Richard retrieved a fresh dagger.
The whole time we had just been quiet. And I enjoyed it. Just having Richard's presence reassured me. Only too soon was that interrupted.
Hayley jumped on Richard's back, digging two daggers into him. Hayley threw him into the lava below, his screams echoing through the cave.
Boom.
I ran at Hayley. He was a decent fighter, but I could be better. I swung my sword.
A hand rolled across the floor. A mangled cry escaped Hayley's lips. He staggered out of the cave and in the opposite direction of me. I myself had obtained a few injuries.
Limping through the cave, I came back to jasper. He was sitting up, polishing his knife. When he saw me come in, he jumped to his feet.
"I was worried! Where did you go? I heard a cannon." Jasper looked genuinely concerned. I just sat down fighting back tears.
Richard gave me a sense of protection. Without him, I couldn't do anything.
I curled up in my sleeping bag. Jasper can protect me and even if I die, I don't care. All I want to do is sleep.
