"I'm gonna go take a walk," I announced one night.
"Really? Is that the best idea?" Jimmy asked.
"I'll be fine, Jimmy. If any murderer lays a hand on me, I'll scream like a banshee," I said with a laugh.
"Good plan," he responded.
I nodded and began to walk toward the Ferris Wheel. I sat down on the steps to get on the ride and looked at the sky. I looked over to the Main tent where a group of boys were being kicked out of the tent by Ethel.
"Go on! Get!" She yelled, shooing them away.
They were all laughing as they walked toward me. "Hey, Lobster Girl! We've been looking for you!" One of them called out.
"Hey, douchebag!" I called back.
They finally reached me and I looked up at them. "You need something?" I asked.
"Remember me?" The man asked, moving the toothpick around in his mouth.
"Loads of people come through the show-" I began.
"No. I met you before you got into 'show business'" he laughed, doing air quotes.
I scoffed. "Really? Who are you?" I asked.
"Carl. Carl Simpson," he said.
My heart dropped to my feet. I stood up and looked him in the eyes.
"Carl Simpson. You really grew up," I began. "And sometimes that ain't a good thing," I finished.
"Yeah. And you look the same," he said, getting in my face. "Sometimes God is cruel," he said.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"Your face. I'm guessing it's still red," he said.
"Yup. As red as it was when we last saw each other. And I ain't got a problem with that," I said. It got quiet for a minute.
"You still breaking hands?" He asked. His whole group laughed.
"Depends. You still raping girls?" I asked.
The group went quiet. "I never raped you," he growled.
I felt my fists clench. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't break your hand again," I said.
"Hm. Let's see. I could make everyone turn against you and run you out of town. Again," he said.
"Didn't stop me last time, right?" I asked.
He looked angry. "Do you have any idea who my parents are?" He asked.
I laughed. "A rich and entitled couple who made a horrible mistake twenty four years ago," I hissed.
He pushed me on to the steps. "You better hope I never see your ugly ass again," he said.
"HEY!" I heard a voice scream from behind them.
The group turned around and looked at the person. Then Carl looked at me. "See you around, Melanie," he said and ran. The group followed.
When they left, I saw who had called out. Jimmy, Paul, and Eve were standing there. They rushed over and helped me up.
"What happened? Who are they?" Eve asked.
"Just some assholes I had the misfortune of meeting," I said, dusting off my dress.
"Want us to catch up to 'em?" Paul asked.
"No, that's alright. They're long gone by now. But thank you anyway," I said.
