I laid with Jimmy for a long time. It was dark when I got up.

"Where are you going?" Jimmy asked.

"Well it's getting late. I thought I'd go to bed," I said.

"Oh," he responded.

"Unless you don't want me to," I said.

"Well I don't know where you'd sleep. It'd probably be uncomfortable for you," he said.

"I'll give you my cot. I can stay elsewhere for the night," Massimo chimed in from where he was working.

"You don't have to do that. You're already doing so much-" I began.

"It's really no problem, dear," he said, not looking up.

"Thank you," Jimmy said.

"I'll be right back, okay? I'm gonna go get some blankets," I said to Jimmy.

"Of course," Jimmy said with a small smile. Haven't seen that in awhile.

I smiled back and made my way to the fairgrounds. After grabbing some blankets and putting on some pajamas, I started walking back to Jimmy. As I was doing so, I heard some low whispering. I crouched behind someone's caravan and listened.

"Tonight is the night. We have to do it," Paul said.

"Agreed. Where's Melanie?" Desiree asked.

"She's with Jimmy and Massimo. I think it's best that she doesn't see this. I think it's too much for her to handle," Eve responded.

"That's true. The girl needs a damn break," Desiree said.

"So we agree to not tell her what happened to Elsa," Penny said.

"Agreed," Suzi said.

"For Ethel," Desiree shouted.

"For Ethel!" Everyone shouted back.

"Now let's get ready. We gotta surprise her," Ima said.

They all nodded and walked into their caravans. I immediately got up and ran towards Elsa's tent. She was packing bags.

"Elsa?" I asked.

She looked at me. "I have no time, Melanie. You know what they're gonna do, don't you?" She asked desperately. There were a few tears on her cheeks.

I nodded. "I came to warn you. I don't want any more death," I said.

"Understandable. Is there anything I can do to repay you for everything you've done?" She asked.

I looked at the ground and thought for a moment. "I want the truth. Did you kill Ethel?" I asked.

She paused her packing and looked at me. She was silent.

"Did you?" I asked.

She didn't answer.

"Oh my God," I whispered, a tear falling from my eye.

"It was an act of self defense," she said.

My mouth hung open a little bit. "Go. Don't ever come back," I said angrily.

She sniffled, picked up her bags, and slowly walked by me.

How is it that the person you should trust the most, becomes the person who betrays you the most?

After watching her leave, I escaped before the group could see me. I could hear their confused noises when they found out that Elsa wasn't there. I wiped tears from my face and walked inside the shed. Massimo was gone. I sat on the cot next to Jimmy and spread the blanket over my body.
