Chapter twenty two- Empty

3rd POV

"Anything?" Sage asked making the other three look at her.

"Y-yeah." Topper said confused.

"John B switch clothes with him. Now." Sage said to her brother.

"What?" John B asked confused.

"Topper will walk out and pretend he's you. I'll go with him to make it seem more real, which will give you two time to get away." Sage said her plan.

"No, no, no, I'm not letting you just give yourself up to the cops." John B said.

"John B," Sage said, tears filling her eyes

"No! They're after you too, I'm not letting you, I can't do this without you," John B said making Sage grab John Bs shoulders.

"Look at me." Sage said trying not to cry. "This is the only way. They are after me, because they want you. Please listen to me."

John B looked at her sister as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"Please." She begged him. He looked at Sarah before looking back at his sister and nodded.

Sage let out a sigh of relief and looked at Topper wonder if he would actually do this. Topper looked at the girl before John B and Sarah.

"I can't believe I'm doing this." Topper said before the two boys swapped clothes.

"Okay let's go." Sage said to Topper. She went to open the door but John B stopped her.

"Promise me that you'll meet me at the Phantom." John B asked Sage, trying not to cry.

"John B," Sage tried to say knowing it was a promise she probably couldn't keep.

"Please." John B cried letting a couple tears fall down his cheeks. Sage hugged her brother as tightly as she he could and he did the same.

"I promise." Sage whispered. "I love you, so much." She said letting her tears fall, knowing she wouldn't be able to say that to him for awhile after this.

John B kissed the top of her head, "I love you too." He said. The broke and Sarah went up to Sage.

"Be careful Blondie." Sage said to the girl. Sarah let out a sob and hugged the girl.

"I'll take care of him. I promise." Sarah whispered as they hugged. Sage let more tears pour down her face.

Sarah knew Sage wouldn't be able to get back to the Phantom after this. This would be the last time they would see each other for a long time. Sage knew this too, but John B wouldn't believe that.

They broke apart. Sage smiled at the girl and then looked at her brother.

"Let's do this." She said with tears.

The four walked down the ladder only to find fire. They tried coughed the smoke out their lungs.

"Go!" Sage yelled. Sarah grabbed John Bs hand and they ran to the back door. Sage looked at Topper who nodded.

They walked to the front. Topper put the hood on his head as Sage opened the door. She walked out first.

"That's her! The murderers sister!" A woman cried out. Sage put her hands out in surrender as Topper walked out behind her.

"That's the cop killer!" Someone else yelled, not seeing Toppers face.

"Get down! On your knees, Rutledges!" Shoupe yelled at them. They got on their knees listening to the scream telling the cops to kill them.
