With her eyes piercing through mine, I can tell something was off about her. Though I chose to say nothing, many thought swirled around my bewildered mind.
Before I can say any other word, she jumped up from her seat, rushed into me and shoved me making me to fall backwards onto the floor.
Groaning in pain from her hard shove, I could hear the screams of Marcus and my mother.
Marcus: "what the hell is your problem old lady?"
Marcus Scurried my way to help me up. Standing up on my feet, I felt a pounding headache.
I looked in the old lady's direction and there she was standing, pointing at the house next door, leaving my mother, Marcus and I speechless.
"What is she looking at?" Marcus and mom said in unison.
Confused at their words, I stared at the house where the old man stands in front of the window, staring right at us.
I quickly turning around, but there were no sight of the old woman.
"Where did she go?" I asked, but no one answered.
~~
It's been approximately 2 hours, and Marcus and I are still at mom's house. Even though I tried to leave sooner to get home to Jacob, Marcus kept hindering me from leaving so soon."Marcus, I think we should go back to Jacob".
"Fine, lets go".
Though I'm a bit confused at his harsh response, I pushed the thought behind me and headed back to Marcus's house, leaving mom there.
We drove in silence on our way back.
"Why didn't you want us to leave earlier?"
"Snickering", he simply said, "I guess I didn't want to leave your mother all alone in that house huh".
I stared at him without giving him a response.
~~
Finally, we approached the front door. I entered calmly to search for Jacob. I stumbled across the voice of someone familiar. Slowly making my way to the sound of the voice, I noticed Hailey and Jacob in the living room."Oh, hey what are you doing here?"
"Umm, actually I was looking for you and I saw Jacob here".
"Alone?"
"No, the neighbor was watching him, Umm, can I talk to you?"
"Maybe a bit later ok, kinda tired now"
Without allowing Hailey to answer, I turned my focus to Jacob.
"Hey, wanna go for walk?"
"Sure"
Ten minutes later Jacob and I were walking around the neighborhood when I decided to break the silence.
"Soo... do you like it here?"
"Sometimes".
"Why sometimes?".
"Well... Umm Marcus kinda freaks me out sometime".
I came to a halt as I heard those words.
"Wha..what do you mean?".
Well one night, I woke up out of my sleep to get a glass of water, on my way to the kitchen I heard whispering voices in the living room.
It was Marcus and he was talking to himself Emily, I mean...he didn't see me or anything.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I don't know".
"What was he saying?".
"I'm not sure but... he keep saying something about an old house and Jenkins".
Unable to catch my breath, I grabbed ahold of Jacob's hand and comforted him.
A few minutes later we stumbled across a pond. As I watched Jacob entertained himself, I thought to myself what he told me earlier on.
*I have to find out more about that house next door* I thought to myself.
"I'm hungry" Jacob said interrupting my thoughts.
"Ok, well we should head back".
~~
We reached at Marcus's front door within a few minutes. As I grabbed ahold of the door, it swung open leaving Marcus standing in front of it."I thought you two wasn't coming back" he said with a chuckle.
"Yh, actually I'm just gonna fix something for Jacob to eat. You want?"
"Nah, I'm good actually".
As soon as I entered the kitchen, I noticed there were papers laid all over the counter. As I reached for it, I was startled by the sound of Marcus voice. I quickly went into the refrigerator pretended to look for something.
"Hey, you need any help in here?" He asked as he gathered his papers.
"Umm no I'm fine, thanks".
I sigh..As he exited the kitchen along with his documents, leaving me there alone.
I quickly prepared a meal of pizza for Jacob and a glass of orange juice. As I made my way to the living room where he and Marcus was, I felt my phone vibrate.
Hailey: hey, can we talk?
"Sure"
Hailey: great, I'll be there in 10 minutes.
I locked my phone after Hailey's last text and put it in my pocket. I took a seat in the living room with Marcus and Jacob watching family guy.
Twenty minutes later, there was a soft knock on the front door.
"I'll get it", I said.
As I opened the front door, I spotted Hailey. I embraced her in a long friendly hug, knowing how much I missed her.
"Let's go upstairs".
"We'll just be upstairs" I said to Marcus and Jacob, who was really into the show.
Hailey and I proceeded towards my bedroom. As we entered the room, Hailey bursted out the phrase.
"You're not safe here Emily".
"Wha...what do you mean?" I asked in a whispering voice.
So everything you told me out that day, I decided to do some research on the house next door to where you and your family live, and Emily it's not safe.
"I figured that Hailey, but what made you say it's not safe here?"
Because Emily.....I believe Marcus has something to do with the...
"Shhh", I said to Hailey as I could see a shadow pasting back and fourth outside of the door Hailey and I are in.
I slowly stood up, cautiously making my way to see who it is. As I swung the door open, I saw a shadowy figure sprint across the room, where it vanished within a blink of an eye.
Fear overwhelmed me, as I was standing still by the door I heard the words, "the house" repeating over and over in a gravel tone. I slowly turned around, my hands shaking, and in an alarmed, soft tone I asked "did....did you say something?"
