‘Looks like we’ve lost them,' Aar proclaims. He still has the rotten-heart-stone from before. He’s gotten attached, it would seem.

'Well, one can never be too sure,' Bee says. She’s in the rear of the boat – I don’t know what it’s called; the stern, I think – and she’s keeping a watch.

Mr. Om is asleep. He’s old, so he gets tired early. It’s up to us kids now for the time being.

Me and Aar are yawning wildly too. Our ears are tired of hearing Es sing some silly heart-to-heart song as she steers the boat with her spirit-mind or whatever anyway. Maybe Disney should hire her for future Frozen sequel prospects.

'You two go to sleep,' Bee says. ‘I’ll keep watch, I already slept some on the plane. Besides, I have See.’

‘And how long do you think it is before Mister Doggieface drifts off again?’ Aar said, chuckling.

Bee shrugs. ‘We’ll be okay.’

‘But what if you feel sleepy?’ I ask. ‘We don’t want to be eaten by crocodile-human thingies.’

‘Actually, it’s lizard-human thingies, by how Es described it,' Bee says. ‘I’ll wake you up if I’m tired.’

Aar falls sleep instantly, making See his annoyed pillow. I am still skeptical. The thought of being inside a J-shaped reptilian stomach makes me uncomfortable.

'Mar, trust me,' Bee says. 'I'm the responsible one here, remember?’

I let out a smile. ‘If submitting homework and projects on time is being responsible, then sure. You are.’

She smiles back at me. ‘We’re a long way from school.’

'We are.’

It’s so silent, so peaceful, this place. The two of us take a moment to just take it all in. People scarcely ever get a chance like this in a lifetime. I hope you get a moment like this in your life - because this is nothing short of magical. I even forget the lake's stench for a second.

(Just a second, mind you. Then it hit my nostrils like a bulldozer.)

Also, Es's heart-to-heart song spoils the moment a tad, but all in all, still a good enough respite for me. This place holds a lot of secrets, though. It’s as deadly as it is beautiful.

I look at Bee. I smile again.

Because so is she.

I think I’m starting to understand why Aar fancies her so much.

We all could use some magic in our lives.

Enough magic and nonsense for the day. Hope you're hale as a whale.
