I could barely get through training that day, I was so confused about what was happening.
"Are you okay, Marco?" Armin's voice brought me out of my worried thoughts.
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine Armin. Don't worry about me!" I smiled convincingly.
"Okay then. Since training's over for the day, do you want to hang out with Eren, Mikasa and I?" He asked.
"No, I'm good for today, thank you. I'm gonna go get some rest" I replied.
As I waved goodbye to Armin, the thoughts filled my mind all over again. I walked as fast as I could towards my bunk. When I got there, I immediately crashed and fell asleep.

Around midnight, I woke up to the sight of the same ghostly Jean as the night before. He beckoned for me to follow him outside, so I did.
As I exited the small building, I saw thousands and thousands of stars in the sky above us. The moon shined down on us, and the stars twinkled brightly.
"This...this is amazing" I gasped. I had seen the night sky before, but never as beautiful as it was then.
"It is" Jean agreed happily.
"Now, about what you wanted to say last night" I asked him.
"Oh yeah, that." Jean said, "You can only see me in the dark, at night."
"Why exactly?" I asked, confused.
"I still don't know, but it's almost like I fade away when the sun comes up" He explained to me.
"This isn't fair," I exclaimed, shaking my head,"why do you have to keep leaving so soon after I find you?"
"If it bothers you that much, I can leave for good" Jean whispered sadly.
"NO! I mean, that's not what I meant" I said worriedly.
"Okay, good." Jean seemed relieved about not having to leave.

Jean and I talked until sunrise. We talked about training, how all of our friends were doing, things like that. As he began to fade away in the early morning light, he told me one last thing:
"Oh Marco, about your question last night?"
"Yeah, Jean?" I asked him.
"I love you too"
And with those four last words, he faded completely.
