Ch. 35: You're Safe

Steve's POV:

I wake up and see myself, again, at the hospital.

Soda is by my side holding Natalie. I gasp a little. "Natalie, my baby," I say weakly.

"Shh, don't talk." Soda says handing Natalie to Darry, who's by his side. Sodapop strokes my hair. "You're safe. Josh is going to be held in maximum security, so he won't escape."

Maximum security? That's great! No criminal can escape that, hopefully.

"I want to hold Natalie." 

"Are you sure?" Darry asks.

I nod. Darry hands me Natalie, and she smiles. I hold her on my chest and kiss the top of her head. My baby is okay. Thank god.

"Hey, the doctors told me you can go home tomorrow, as long as you take some medicines."

Ugh, I hate the medicines, they taste like blank nothing, but I'll take my chances as long as I leave this place again. I hate it here, it makes me feel like it's my second home.

"Hey Soda, since you're here, can you lay with me?" I ask him.

"Sure," he gets next to me and wraps his arms around me and kisses my head. "I love you so much."

I look up at him, "I love you too." I lay my head on his chest. Darry leaves the room, probably because he feels uncomfortable.

Natalie falls asleep and so do we since it's around 10 p.m.

The next day...

I wake up and see Soda talking to a doctor and Natalie in my arms. "What's going on?"

Soda looks at me and smiles, "You're being released from here right now, you just need to take 3 medicines."

Ew. Not the medicines.

The doctors hands me one and I take it. It's so liquidy and gross. Ugh.

I take the other 2, which tastes worse. I get up and change since I had a gown on. I mean, it's kind of disturbing when you don't know who took off your clothes and put you on this when you're unconscious.

Soda and I sign out with Natalie in my arms. We walk to Darry's truck, which he's waiting in. We leave the hospital afterwards.
