Dawn came too soon.
Young Mi was the first to notice it. Her hands had been entwined in Gunhak's golden hair. As he rested his head on her chest, listening to her heartbeat.
They had packed everything up and mounted their horses. Holding hands the whole ride to the river.
Halfway there Gunhak spoke up.
"My Mother's decided to move my coronation date forward." He said.
"What? Why?" Young Mi said.
"To get me to marry quicker," Gunhak said, ignoring the gasp that escaped her lips, "My mother is ill and wants me to take the throne with a wife by my side."
Young Mi was silent.
They continued to ride on in silence.
"I don't...." Young Mi said after a long moment of silence "I don't want you to get married.... But I don't want to let my selfish wants get in the way of what is best for the kingdom."
The prince groaned.
"Now you make me feel like a total bastard." Gunahk said "Because I'm doing everything I can to fight against what has been chosen for me."
It wasn't long until they came to a stop at the river they had shared many memories at.
Gunhak dismounted and caught Young Mi as she slid off the side of her horse. He wrapped his arms around his waist, pulling her tight against him.
"I don't want to let you go." Young Mi said.
She kissed him holding him close to her and feeling the growing warmth inside of her. Like a flame that started at her toes but hastily crept up her legs and spread throughout her body. Young Mi tried to bring her mind to focus only on the warmth spreading all around her imprinting it's feeling into her memory. She pulled away and stared at the closed lids of his eyes.
"But I have to."
"What?" Gunahk said eyes popping open.
"This is wrong." Young Mi said "If you're getting married then I can't be with you."
"No," Gunhak whispered.
"I will not let your throne suffer because of me."
"No, no, no, no."
"Do not come to see me again." Young Mi said.
"No, no, no, No!" Gunhak said pulling her closer to him, "You can't do this! I love you! I love you Young Mi!"
"I'm sorry."
He lowered his head bending down so Young Mi was looking down.
"Please..." He breathed out.
Tears slipped out of his eyes as she slid his arms off from around her waist. He heard Young Mi start to take steps.
"So that's it?" Gunhak said "After all this time?!"
Young Mi Felt the tears pool in her eyes as she walked away.
Gunhak's angry cries continued to fill the air. "After all this searching for the perfect sanctuary you're just ending it like that?!."
Young Mi felt the tears slip out of her eyes.
She wanted to turn around so badly, to at least say sorry again. But she didn't because she knew that if she did she would run back into his arms and plead for forgiveness.
She knew that she wouldn't be able to leave his side again.
She would not dishonour his family by listening to her selfish desires and stay with him.
"Young Mi don't do this." Gunhak said.
She tuned him out and hopped across the river.
The tears soundlessly fell from her eyes.
She entered her house went into the room she shared with her brothers and lay down onto the mat and didn't get up.
