It had been a normal day, a day filled with countless girls giving him gifts and being way too comfortable near him. If he was honest he was getting rather uncomfortable, don't get him wrong he loved the attention but as the school year progressed some of them were getting way too confident. Since Osamu wasn't feeling well he had gone home early, leaving Atsumu to walk home alone. He stopped in his tracks when he heard an all too familiar conversation.
[y/n] was currently getting confessed to by a third year, he was surprised that her popularity had even gotten to their upperclassmen. As quietly as he could he peeked his head around the corner watching as the third year had his arm above her head, almost trapping her against the wall. The scene made the setter roll his eyes, it's as if he could feel the rejection coming before it even happened.
It was clear that this upperclassman had way too much confidence for his own good, his intentions were almost crystal clear. "C'mon baby, just go on one date with me" the phrase almost made him want to vomit, he could sense by her face that this wasn't the first time this particular guy has asked her out.
"Like I've said what feels like a billion times, no" she gently pushed him away as she stood up straighter. "Since you don't seem to get what no means I have to say this rather harshly but" she met his eyes and even Astumu could feel the coldness behind the stare. "Sato-senpai, I will never ever go on a date with you. In fact, you have made me rather disgusted and you should learn some manners."
This was a rather harsh statement but he couldn't help but agree since Sato had always been a creep that made most girls and even some guys uncomfortable. But knowing from how the upperclassmen on his team described he did not take getting rejected well, he decided it was time to come out of hiding when he noticed the visible anger show on Sato's face.
"You know [l/n]-san it isn't a very good idea to be so harsh without having some kind of back up plan." he was met with two pairs of eyes, both seemed surprised while he wore a lazy smile.
"Get out of here Miya, this had nothing to do with you" He ignored the anger rising in the third years voice, which was laced with fear. He looked down at [y/n] hand, she was fidgeting with a ring on her finger. He had noticed that whenever he'd stumble upon someone confessing to her she'd start twirling it on her finger when she rejected them, almost scared of what they'd do.
"She said no Sato-senpai, so I suggest you leave her alone" she had never seen up close just how scary he really could be once he dropped his usual smile, she'd only ever seen it when someone messed up his serve. It always sent a shiver down her spine with how much power he can hold. Even the older boy seemed to be visibly shaken up by the sudden change in the setter.
"Whatever, she's not even that hot anyway" with those parting words he grabbed his bag and walked away. She watched as his casual walkaway soon turned into a run as if thinking that the volleyball player was going to chase after him. The whole ordeal made the boy start to laugh slightly.
"You know [l/n]-san you shouldn't act so high and mighty when you're scared, it seems to cause you bigger problems." her eyes met his smile once more his words making her blush from embarrassment. Before she could reason out a response that she was in fact not scared he had interrupted her. "You fidget with your ring whenever you're scared, it's your tell, darling."
"W-whatever Miya-san, I don't know what you're talking about" She walked towards her bag that was slightly open on the floor, "I wasn't scared, this happens way too many times for me to be scared anymore" her words made his smile falter but only for a second.
It was obvious that she was getting just as annoyed as he was about all the confessions and fan clubs they both seem to cultivate. He finally looked at the scene that was in front of him, her bag looked as if it had been thrown away from her and her blazer was showing signs of her being grabbed rather roughly.
"It shouldn't be a normal thing, darling" she rolled her eyes at the pet name he had given her, she brushed any remaining dirt off her before flinging her bag over her shoulder.
"You should know better than anybody how aggressive these fans can become sometimes."
He had offered to walk her home just in case, she had agreed rather reluctantly. They walked in silence that night before they said their goodbyes at her door. As he walked in the silence of the night her words couldn't help but echo in his head, sure he knew somewhat of what she talked about. He had girls and even some guys when he had rejected them become rather hostile but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle but he was getting rather tired of it.
He had thought about just accepting one of the confessions so that once he had a girlfriend they'd leave him alone even a little bit, but that could also end up ugly. As he entered his house an idea had struck, a plan already forming in his head as he walked towards his room.
"Oi, [l/n]-san, Miya-san is at the door for you" she stopped talking with her friends following the boy's finger, as the blonde-haired twin waved wearing his signature lazy smile.
She thanked her classmate before excusing herself from her friends. She wasn't even in front of him yet and she could already hear the whispers from her classmates. "Hello, Miya-san, do you need something?" she put on the sweetest smile she could, she noticed how he seemed to study her face before actually meeting her eyes.
"I have a proposition, follow me, darling" she couldn't help the small blush, he had called her the pet name countless times but never in front of more than a few people. She rolled her eyes and nodded as he led her out of the classroom. Their walk was silent as he led her to what she assumed to be a more private place. He finally stopped in a somewhat deserted classroom, he sat down and motioned for her to join him.
She silently complied as she took a seat across from him. "So what's this proposition?" he held his head up with his hand, he grabbed a lock of her hair catching her by a surprise.
"It's simple, we tell everyone we're dating" he seemed so casual it pissed her off, she slapped his hand away which he merely smiled at.
"That's it? Why would I date you?"
"Not actually date, just act like we are." he seemed to wait for his words to set in as he leaned back in his chair. "Listen, we both have fans and that's great but I think I speak for both of us in saying that some of them make us rather uncomfortable." She didn't even hesitate when she nodded.
"Then getting a girlfriend, they would quite frankly tear them apart." his bluntness brought a small chuckle to her lips.
"Totally, but what does that have to do with me?"
He leaned forward once more, "I'm glad you asked, darling. Since you are just as popular, nobody is going to touch you" he turned his head towards the window, as if deep in thought. "We would be like the power couple of our class, nobody would bother to confess or anything when they seem to idolize us."
"You seem to think highly of yourself, I don't think anyone idolizes us"
"Really tell that to the group of girls that tell me every day how much they love me or the guys who tell me I'm an inspiration to them?"
She knew he was joking, but the meaning was clear. They could both use a break from the bad parts of their attention.
"Fine I agree to fake date you"
"This will be fun, darling"
They spent a few minutes longer discussing the rules of their little arrangement. Until they were walking back towards her class with her hand in his. It was clear that people were staring, as a few conversations had gone quiet as they stared at the pair. They stopped at the open door of her classroom, he grabbed her waist gently pulling her closer.
"I'll walk you home, darling." She knew it wasn't a question, even though he had practice, it just meant she'd have to sit in. She knew it was a part of their game so she nodded. He cupped her cheek planting a light kiss on her lips before he let her go and walked back towards his class as the bell rang. She touched her hand to her lips, smiling, who knew Atsumu could be so gentle.
