Well summers over, you know what that means. Another year of school, another year of putting pencil to paper, another year of memorizing useless formulas that I will never use in the future, if I went to muggle school. I am no ordinary 13-year-old girl ladies and gentlemen, I'm a witch. Witch (see what I did there) means that I go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I spend my school days learning spells, enchantments, potions, and anything else you could learn at a magic school.
This year is going to be my third year attending Hogwarts. Wow, it feels like just yesterday I got my letter in the post. Mum and Dad proudly smiling at me as I opened it. My Mum and Dad are wizards too, my whole family is. Which makes us a pureblood family. To be honest I hate that we are purebloods because we are seen as bloodtraters. We are one of the only pureblood family's (aside from the Weasley's) that believe we are all the same. My whole family was in Gryffindor and not many pureblood families are in Gryffindor. I'm seen as an outsider because I'm a pureblood and I don't have any Gryffindor friends.
My two best friends, Ashley and Chris, are in Ravenclaw. The house of people who are all way smarter than me. I could never be in Raven-.
"Bella, we have to get a move on or else we will be late. Don't you want to meet Ashley and Chris at Diagon Ally?"
Oh, that's right! Today I was meeting Ashley and Chris at Diagon Ally. Diagon Ally is a place where young witches and wizards (like me) can get their stuff for school. You can get your books, your robes, your wand, and there's even a joke shop. I have been to Diagon Ally multiple times before, but this time will be different. Mum is finally letting me stay at the inn there, with my friends of course. Mum would never let me stay in London by my-.
"Seriously Bella we have to go, is your trunk all packed?"
"Yes mum"
I drag my trunk along with my Barn Owl, George, downstairs.
"There you are!" exclaimed mum. "We have to get a move on"
"Where's Dad and Zach?" I ask as I notice my father and little brother aren't in the kitchen.
"They're already in the car"
Oh, I didn't realize how long it took me to get ready this morning. I drag my trunk and owl, again, into the car. I jump into the backseat and take my place beside Zach. We begin the long two and a half hour drive to London.
************************************************
"We're here," Zach says excitedly.
We walk into the Leaky Caldron, the dingy looking tavern from the outside. On the inside it's a tavern for witches and wizards; it's also the inn I will be staying at with my friends, and it's the entrance to Diagon Ally. We walk to the back of the Tavern; to the entrance of Diagon Ally. Dad takes out his wand and taps on a brick wall, which opens to reveal the ally. Zach stares at the ally in awe, he's never been to an all wizarding community before. The last couple of times, it's just been me and Mum.
"Ahh, I remember coming to Diagon Ally not long ago" Dad exclaims.
"If "not long ago" means when you went to Hogwarts Dad, then sure it was "not long ago" I joke.
We share a quick laugh just as I spot Ashley and Chris. They beckon us to step back inside the Leaky Cauldron.
"It's so good to see you guys again," I say to Ashley and Chris, as I pull them in for a hug.
"I missed you guys," Ashley says.
"Same here" Chris responds.
We all order drinks and sit to catch up. Us talking about our summer and what we're going to in the five days we have here before it's time to start the semester. Our parents talking about stuff that's happening at the ministry. Zach and Ashley's little sister, Julia, talking about something. Well, it's more of Zach telling Julia about the fun he had a summer camp. After all, Zach is only seven and Julia's eleven, so it must be kind of hard to have a conversation with him.
Speaking of Julia being eleven, that means that this is going to be her first year at Hogwarts! Ashley doesn't seem to be too thrilled about that though. I guess she likes being able to escape Julia. Julia won't be staying with us. She will be going back to Ashley's house and then brought back to London on the 1st to catch the Hogwarts Express. We talk for a while before Mum says we have to get our room. We bring our trunks up to the front desk where we are met with a weird looking man behind the counter.
"Name?" the weird looking man asks.
"Laurena Radford," Ashley's mum responds, she was the one who booked the room.
"Room 394, up the stairs and second on the right," the man says handing us three bronze keys.
"Thank you," we all say.
Me, Ashley, and Chris say goodbye to our families and drag our trunks up the stairs. We find our room and unlock the door. It was a fairly big room with two twin beds, a pull-out couch, and a bathroom. The window overlooked the trains at Kings Cross Station. In just five days we will be going on one of those trains.
"This will be a nice place to sit and read," Ashley says, gesturing to the window.
"You're such a Ravenclaw Ashley. We're staying at Diagon Ally and all you can think about it reading" I respond.
"I'm going to take that as a compliment," she bites back.
We both stick our tongues out at each other. It was getting dark outside and when I looked at the clock it read 9:00. I was super tired from the long trip so I suggested we go to bed.
"Yeah I think that's a good idea," Chris says.
"That way we can have a bunch of energy to shop tomorrow" Ashley exclaims.
We change into our pj's and went to bed.
Thank you for reading the first chapter of The Spellbook. I'm really excited that I'm finally getting one of my drafts published. I will try to update this story soon, along with my other stories that aren't completed yet. I want to know your opinion on the cover of this book because I thought it was really cool but I just want to know your thoughts. Happy Reading! Word count: 1123.
