Chapter Three

"What are you doi-" I begin to say but she cuts me off.

"Bella, I need to give you something"

"How do you know my name?" I ask.

"That's not important now. What is, is this"

She hands me an old, blue and gold book.

"You need to keep this safe and you can't tell anyone about this. Not your friends, or even your parents. Do you understand?"

I nod my head and she disappears just as quickly as she appeared. All of this left me wondering what was this book and why was it so important? Why couldn't I tell anyone about it? And most importantly, how did she know my name?

*************************************************

The scene from a couple of days ago plays in my head as I toss and turn in my bed. The book safely stored under my bed, where no one could see it. I still didn't know the answers to any of the questions, nor had I actually looked at the book. So I decided to grab the book out from under my bed and have a look at it.

It looked very old like it was around in the dinosaur times. I turn to the first page to find the words The Hewitt Spellbook: passed down to every little girl with the last name Hewitt. Hewitt...Hewitt...Hewitt, something about that name sounded familiar. All I knew was that Hewitt is not my last name. Larson is my last name, so again why do I have this book?

I turn the page to Chapter One: everyday spells and start to read. As I read further and further, I learn more and more about the book. All it was, was a book of spells that people in the Hewitt family made. There were everyday spells, good spells, evil spells, easy spells, hard spells and many more. I still didn't know why this book was such a big deal. Why did I have to hide a regular spellbook from everyone?

*************************************************

"Chris, Bella do you have everything? We are going to be late for the train," Ashley yells.

"Yes mum," I joke.

"I just want to make sure we don't miss the train," She responds.

"Ashley, the train leaves at 11:30 and it's only 10:30. Not to mention the fact that Kings Cross is just across the street. SO CHILL," Chris says.

I hide my smirk behind my hand as Ashley shoots Chris a warning look. We pack up our trunks (and in my case owl) and head down the stairs for some breakfast.

After we have our breakfast, we make our way over to Kings Cross station.

"See Ashley, we are at Kings Cross and it's only 11:10, we still have lots of time," Chris says.

"Yes, you guys were right. Did you hear that?" Ashley questions.

"No," Chris and I say.

"I said that you guys were right. You should write that down because I will probably never say it again," Ashley responds.

We all share a quick laugh as we walk through the wall to get to the platform. All of a sudden, out of the corner of my eye, I see the witch that gave me the spellbook. She beckons me to follow her down an ally.

"I will be right back guys, pick a good compartment," I say.

"Ok, don't be too long," Ashley states.

I stroll toward the witch.

"Bella, I didn't have time to explain anything to you yesterday when I gave you the book. It's a very sacred book; something that only the-" she begins to say but I cut her off.

"Only the Hewitt family can read it, I know. Here," I say pulling out the book. "You can have it back. I do not belong to the Hewitt family. My last name is Larson"

"You will not be able to see anything with that kind of attitude. Keep looking at the book, you might be surprised. Best get back to your friends before they start to worry," She says.

"But I thought you were going to explain-"

"Save it for another day,"

And with that, she disappears. What was she going on about? Not being able to see with that kind of attitude. Sounds bloody mental. I am quickly pulled out of my trance by the horn of the train. Shoot it was almost 11:30, the train will be leaving soon. A run as fast as I can toward the train and just make it through the doors before they shut.

"That was a close one," I say aloud.

"It sure was," A voice behind me says.

I turn around to see Chris facing me.

"Who was that witch?" He asks.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't see a witch."

"Bella I'm not stupid. I saw you talking to a witch."

"Fine, you caught me. But I better tell you this private. Let's go find Ashley."

Chris leads me through a maze of kids and compartments. We stop at a compartment about halfway down the train. He opens that door and I see Ashley reading one of our school books.

"Bella there you are!" Ashley exclaims. "Where did you go?"

"You both might want to sit down for this," I say.

We all sit down.

"When we were in Diagon Ally, I was stopped by this witch and she gave me this," I pull out the book and turn to the first page. "It says that it's The Hewitt Spellbook: pass-"

"Bella there's nothing written on that page," Ashley says.

"What do you mean? It says The Hewitt Spellbook: passed down to every little girl with the last name Hewitt," I state.

"I can't see that," Chris responds.

"Me neither," Ashley also says.

"How can you not see what's on the page. It's clear as the nose on your face," I ask.

"I think you're going mad Bella," Ashley says.

"Yeah, do we need to take you to Madam Pomfrey?" Chris remarks.

Chris and Ashley start laughing. I couldn't join in. The book belongs to the Hewitt family, which probably means that only the Hewitt family can see the pages. How could I see them then? Am I part of the Hewitt family? No that couldn't be, I'm part of the Larson family. But then again how could I see the pages?
