Both Lillian and Mitsuki lay in their bed under the pale glow of the lamp near Lillian's bedside. After a long day of work for both, they were thrilled to each have the same day off the next day, which of course prompted them still being awake past one in the morning. Mitsuki was squished against Lillian, resting her head underneath Lillian's chin while Lillian's hand moved up and down Mitsuki's back gently. Though both were tired, neither had dozed off just yet.

"When did you fall in love with me?" Mitsuki murmured.

"Oh, God. This again," Lillian muttered.

"Come on! Be cute with me," Mitsuki argued.

"It's funny. You seem to hate anything romantic except when it's late at night," Lillian thought out loud.

"Are you going to answer my question?" Mitsuki asked, pouting slightly.

"Give me a few seconds to think," Lillian murmured in response, her arm still tucked around Mitsuki. She wasn't exactly sure if there was an exact time to pinpoint it. But she remembered the exhilaration she felt when she finally realized that her feelings toward Mitsuki had become romantic.

"Time's up," Mitsuki announced.

"I-I don't really know when," Lillian confessed. "Probably before that summer, but I hadn't realized it yet."

"When did you realize it?" Mitsuki wondered.

"I began to notice that you were jealous of Irene. When we celebrated your birthday, I realized I knew a lot about you, probably more than I knew about anyone, maybe even Irene. When I gave you your present and just sort of held you for a few moments, it was obvious to me. I almost wanted to confess back then, but you, miss dumbass, broke off the moment," Lillian teased.

"I got scared," Mitsuki admitted, remembering the nervousness and exhilaration that came with that moment. Sometimes, late at night, she still thought of that birthday, when she started to have hope for the first time that maybe Lillian liked her back.

"Scared of what?" Lillian asked.

"You know that when we first started dating I was self-conscious, and I am still a little bit. I thought I was overthinking the situation, that you couldn't possibly have any feelings for me because I had pined after you for so long. It just seemed unrealistic," Mitsuki admitted.

"Stupid," Lillian muttered under her breath.

"Hey!"

"Oh, calm down. I think I remember when you fell in love with me. It was when I found out my mother's identity, right?"

Mitsuki nodded slowly. "I was so pissed that night that someone had hurt you. I already began to suspect I was falling for you, but that just confirmed my suspicions. I wouldn't have minded lighting off sparklers with the rest. In fact, I was looking forward to it that night, but I didn't want to be apart from you. I would've stayed with you all night, you know, if you had asked me to."

Lillian's heart skipped a beat at that statement. Even though they'd been dating a few years, she still felt like she was falling in love more and more each day. With Irene, that initial bit of love faded and faded until they were forced to break off their relationship. With Mitsuki, it only seemed to grow.

"I'm so sorry for making you wait so long for me," Lillian murmured, holding Mitsuki just a bit closer and placing a kiss on top of her head.

"It was worth it," Mitsuki admitted. Her fingers found Lillian's, and their hands slowly became interlaced together. "Now please name off every thing you love about me."

"Is this a gameshow or something?" Lillian wondered. "You're being awfully sappy tonight."

"I like to, every once in a while. Intrigue me."

Lillian rolled her eyes and then stared down at Mitsuki, feeling flustered slightly. She took in a deep breath, beginning to speak easily.

"If we're talking personality-wise, I admire you courage, your boldness, your ability to take charge and give no shits. You always have a goal in mind and a plan to achieve it. Your sarcasm and sassiness, while annoying, also makes you that much more charming. You're awfully cute when you're acting like you do right now. In fact, I always love it when you act flustered in romance compared to your personality with everyone else. I like when I'm able to get that girlish laugh out of you," Lillian said, beginning to tickle Mitsuki's sides. That laugh she loved quickly came from Mitsuki's mouth, and Lillian smiled. "I love how you always make me a cup of coffee in the morning, how you fall asleep with your book on your chest sometimes. I love when you try to cook and fail horribly, but at least you try. I love how you climb on the counter to reach the top cupboards of the kitchen, and I love the way you lay on the floor with the dogs and speak to them like they're your own children. You have an adorable face when you sleep, and you're pretty damn attractive, I think. I mean...there's a lot of other things, but that's what popped up in my head. Mitsuki, are you crying?"

Mitsuki shoved her head a bit closer into the soft fabric of Lillian's pajama top. She felt Lillian's fingers move smoothly through her hair as she quietly cried tears of joy. She had never known before meeting Lillian that you could love someone so much that it made you cry. She took in a deep breath and slowly gathered the courage to look at Lillian. Her girlfriend's lips were upon hers in an instant.

As Lillian pulled away, she narrowed her eyes at Mitsuki. "You don't get to cry as an excuse for not listing the reasons why you love me."

"I-I wasn't!" Mitsuki argued. Lillian shifted slightly to grab a tissue for Mitsuki and handed it to her. Mitsuki blew her nose and slowly caught her breath before staring up at Lillian again.

"I love how kind you are," Mitsuki murmured, squeezing Lillian's hand once more. "But I also love your tenacity and ability to defend yourself. I love how selfless you are and how much you love everyone around you. I love how you always make me coffee or tea in the morning. I love when I walk in on you saying cute things to the dogs even though you never really wanted them. I love how you always invite me to read on the balcony when the sun feels just right. I love how you lean down to kiss me because I can barely reach you on your tiptoes. I love how bright your green eyes are. And," Mitsuki leaned forward to kiss the space between Lillian's eyebrows, "I think you're really hot."

"Well, that lost its poetic charm quickly," Lillian teased. "But I would hope you find me attractive. I think I look pretty cute myself."

"You're so cute," Mitsuki gushed. She took in a deep breath. "Well, now what do we talk about? I was thinking we could go into our deeper emotional issues and childhood traumas. I'll begin. I think—"

"Enough with the pillow talk, I'm tired," Lillian grumbled, shoving her slightly.

"Oh, fine," Mitsuki replied, rolling her eyes.

As Lillian shut off the lamp illuminating the room, the two squished closer together and held each other in the darkness, feeling loved and content.
