Timeline: 5+ years after Chapter 47 of Liberated

Lillian rested a hand across her abdomen and stared up at the ceiling, listening to the sound of crickets in the distance. She was dying of heat, hanging one leg over the side of the bed in an attempt to cool her body down. The warm May air had made it more difficult to sleep at night, especially when her girlfriend insisted on continuing to sleep with three covers.

Lillian turned her head, noticing the way Mitsuki slept soundly. Her covers were wrapped around her head, as if she had enfolded herself in a blanket burrito. She seemed unbothered by the warm air. In fact, Lillian witnessed her pull the blankets closer to her in her sleep, as if she had been chilled.

"Mitsuki," Lillian mumbled.

Only quiet breaths of sleep responded to Lillian.

Lillian groaned and turned her body, beginning to gently shove Mitsuki's body in an attempt to wake her. The girl's eyes briefly opened, and she blinked in confusion.

"What time is it?" she asked.

"Four a.m."

Mitsuki mumbled and turned her body, clearly ready to continue her night of sleep.

"Mitsuki, I'm dying of heat. Please let me take off one sheet," Lillian begged.

"You're hot? It's freezing," Mitsuki mumbled tiredly. She let out a shriek as Lillian yanked the top cover away and tossed it down over the end of the bed.

"No! Bring it back," Mitsuki begged. She sat up quickly, now very clearly awake. She was scrambling for the discarded cover, letting out a yelp as Lillian wrapped her arms around the girl and pulled her back. Mitsuki struggled in her grasp, her hands still outstretched for the sheet.

"Mitsuki, no! It's too hot," Lillian growled. "I can take your excessive use of blankets in the winter, but not in the spring. I'm sweating."

Mitsuki's shoulders sagged, and she leaned against Lillian's chest. "But I want all the covers..."

"I know, love. I'm sorry," Lillian murmured. "But I can't keep sweating in my sleep each night. I smell disgusting in the morning."

"Are...are two covers still too much?" Mitsuki wondered.

"One would be preferable."

A disappointed groan came in response.

"Let's try something else," Lillian suggested, leaning back with Mitsuki onto their bed. She gently pulled the girl close to her body, resting her hand softly behind Mitsuki's neck. Their legs became intertwined, and Lillian pulled a thin sheet over their body as she held Mitsuki in her arms. Mitsuki was snuggled up against Lillian's chest, her head resting right under Lillian's chin.

"How's this?" Lillian asked quietly, running a few fingers through Mitsuki's hair.

"You're warm," Mitsuki murmured in response, her eyes shutting at the comment.

Lillian grinned and shut her eyes too, finding this a much more suitable option for their sleeping arrangements.
