Cassie could barely catch her breath. Her body was bursting with excitement, anxiety, fear, and practically every other emotion. She was impatiently waiting for the results of her pregnancy test, which she had a feeling she knew the outcome of. Besides a late period, she'd felt her body had changed in a way that she couldn't quite describe. She felt...off, which was why she had decided to take the test in the first place.

She was in a good position to have a baby, she thought. She and Marc had been married five years. After buying a house together, Cassie had finished her studies and graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's in childhood education and had recently begun teaching at a local Kindergarten. Marc, meanwhile, had entered the workforce as soon as they were married, working as a car technician. Meanwhile, Elijah had begun going to school.

It felt strange having an almost normal life these days. The tattoo still visible on Cassie's chest reminded her she still belonged to the spiritkeeper world, even if it was unknown whether the Guardians would return. She had enjoyed her days of peace, however. She and Marc had been talking about having a baby lately, and they'd agreed to try. Cassie just didn't realize it could happen so fast.

She'd been so lost in her thoughts that she barely noticed the pink line forming on the pregnancy test. She blinked, noticing a faint pink line had appeared next to the darker pink line. She knew what two pink lines meant.

"Oh, shit," she murmured, her body beginning to shake more. It had seemed like the day would never come when she and Marc had more children. They'd been raising Elijah for years as their own, but this was something different. Of course, she would always regard Elijah as her first child. They weren't going to be starting a family, but merely growing one. This was the first time she would be going through the trials of pregnancy and childbirth herself. This would be her first biological child.

Tears of joy began to flow down Cassie's face. She was a hormonal mess, of which now she knew why. She stood there a few moments and reached for her phone. She considered calling Marc and telling him the news. She had just gotten off from work about an hour prior, which had let her stop by the pharmacy to pick up the test, but she had to go get Elijah soon, and she wanted to tell him in person.

Slowly, Cassie started to compose herself. She threw the test away and left the bathroom, feeling like an entirely different person from when she had entered. After touching up her make-up that had been smeared with tears, she grabbed her car keys.

"How was school today?" Cassie asked her now seven-year-old adopted son.

"We played kickball at recess," he answered, kicking his legs back and forth as he stared out the window. He was in second grade now and would be turning eight in only a few months. School had only started about a few months prior, but Elijah seemed to be enjoying himself.

"That's nice," she said, doing her best to show enthusiasm. Elijah had been asking her for a sibling since she and Marc had gotten married. She desperately wanted to tell him, but she knew it was wise to keep this quiet for now. She didn't exactly trust him to keep a secret with his juvenile tongue.
