PRIME SUSPECT

Chapter 16

The police officers  came with ambulance  to check the corpse lying helplessly on the ground, they came with a camera to snap the corpse, the corpse  was carried  into the ambulance.The police men  moved close to Dennis whose eyes were swollen  already and  was sitting  on the ground with his left hand on his head then bent down  towards  him.

"Mr. Dennis, who do you  suspect could do such a thing? The policeman asked .

"Nobody, the thing is my sister said she was going  to come today, only for me to get  home and  I did  not meet her ."He stopped, the policeman took some as Dennis spoke.

"Your younger sister or elder sister?"the police man asked .

"My younger sister "he answered him then  continued .

"Then Chioma our maid ,when I got home  I didn't  see her also "he said.

"Do you know where Chioma's parents  live? "The policeman  asked .

"My in-law got us the maid"he told them .

"Okay Mr. Dennis "The policeman  said standing  upright then continued

"We would  get back to you, but don't  sleep  in this house tonight ,  find another place   to sleep "The policeman  told him  .

Dennis was speechless, as he  watched   the police men leave with  the ambulance.
Dennis walked into Mr Johnson's   house looking  very tired and rough, it was just the shirt and trouser he wore to work that morning that was still on him, but shirt was thoroughly squeezed with a few blood stains on it.  He was even sweating profusely.

Eugenia's parents were in shock to see their son-in-law in such a state. Mary stood up immediately  and moved  close to Dennis  whose eyes  were wet with tears.

"Dennis what happened?"Mary asked impatiently .

"How's  your wife?"Johnson  also  asked .

"She's  dead"Dennis said and burst into tears that were rolling uncontrollably.

"Who's dead? "Mary asked  looking  confused.

"Eugenia "Dennis said as he   sat on the floor.

Mary couldn't  believe her eyes  she moved close to Dennis  then held his shirt .

"What did you do to my daughter, she asked with tears rolling  uncontrollably down  her cheeks? "

Johnson moved close to his wife , understanding the fact that she's  a mother.

"Mary calm down "Johnson said holding  her shoulder .

"I can't  calm down, my own daughter with eight months  pregnancy, who do I run to? How  did it happen? "she asked  with tears rolling down her cheeks.

"I went to work  as usual, then came back from work but met her in the library lying on the ground in a pool of blood with knife in her stomach" Dennis said and began to cry uncontrollably .

" She was definitely stabbed. "Johnson said trying to hold  back the tears .

"Jhonson you people  killed my daughter"Mary said crying.

"I don't get, who killed your daughter, she's also my daughter, so what do you mean by  you people ?"Johnson asked 

"You and Benson, the deal you made?"Mary  told him.

It was then Dennis  looked up and  remembering  that Johnson and Benson had   made a  deal.

"Could it be him? "Dennis asked Jude.

"Yes,  he's  our prime suspect"Johnson  said  and continued

"What of Chioma?"Mary asked .

"I didn't meet her at home "Dennis said.

"The battle  line has been drawn, Benson would  never  have peace of mind"Johnson said.
