PRIME SUSPECT

Chapter 11

The atmosphere  was tensed, Mary was short of words, Jude was angry, Eugenia  was  only weak.

"Who impregnated you Eugenia"Jude asked.

She was silent and   short of words.

"Eugenia  talk, you  have been in this house for two  weeks, so who came  to  this  house?"Mary asked.

"No one  came to the house, Dennis impregnated me"she confessed.

"Who  is Dennis? "Johnson  asked  in  anger.

'My boyfriend"she said.

"Ah, Eugenia  you are two weeks gone, what will I tell Jude, Eugenia have finally succeeded  in ruining  my business " Johnson  said  raising  his voice .

"Daddy I'm  so sorry "Eugenia  said looking  remorseful  with tears running  down  her cheeks.

"You don't have to be sorry,you are aborting that child"he said.

"I don't  get you"Mary said before  her daughter could  reply  him and continued .

"Have you forgotten  we are devout Catholics"she reminded. 

"I don't care Mary, I  don't mind changing  church  because  of this, all I know  is that this child won't  be born , she's  aborting  the pregnancy"he said again .

Eugenia  wiped her tears  then faced her dad.

"I'm  not aborting  my child , you'll have  to cancel  the deal or tell Laura  to marry Larry"she said  crying  again .

"Yes, my own  child  isn't  aborting  any pregnancy, when you made the deal, no one  was there with you, leave my daughter  out of this please.

"Mary said and took her daughter away from the living room .

Mary took her daughter  to her  room, sat her down  on her bed and wiped her tears.

"Eugenia, are you sure Dennis  will accept  the baby is his?"her mother  asked .

"Yes mom, I'm  sure"Eugenia told her mom confidently.

"Does he know about the pregnancy?"Her mother asked.

"No "Eugenia replied .

"So how do you know  he's going to accept the baby is his?"Mary asked.

"I am so certain he will, mom "Eugenia said .

"Call him right now"Her mother ordered.

Eugenia  picked her phone  to call Dennis, after the second time he picked .

"Hey dear"Dennis said on the phone.

"Hi"Eugenia said  sounding  very weak and tired.

"What's wrong Baby ?" Dennis  asked impatiently trying  to know  what had happened.

"I'm  pregnant "she told him

"God!!! "he exclaimed and continued

"Have you told your  dad? "he asked.

"My parents  know  already."she said with her heart beating very  fast.

"OK , it's  not  a problem,  just  let me   know whatever it is I need to do, if they want us to get married immediately , I'm ready "he said.

"Ok"Eugenia said.

"Cheer  up honey, and be strong, just let me know  whatever  they want me to do "he told her.

"OK dear"she said.

"Yeah "he  said and  hung up .

Immediately she dropped  the call, her mother  heaved a sigh of relief  at least  he accepted the baby is his .

"Thank God  he didn't deny it, I'll  talk to your  father don't  worry"Mary said assuring  her daughter.

"You think abortion is our best option?" Mary asked her husband.

"Mary, it's not that  I don't  want  what's best for my daughter"Johnson said.

"Then what is it Johnson? "Mary asked .

"We made a  deal and  he doesn't  want  the money back, it's my daughter  he wants"he said.

"How much did he give you for the business ?"Mary asked.

"4.3million naira "He answered.

"So you people  wants to sell my daughter  for  4.3million naira?"Mary asked.

"I'm  sorry, I didn't  tell you about the deal initially ."Johnson  begged

"Well, no problem, Eugenia is getting married as soon  as possible, we won't let him know  about it "Mary told him.

"What if he finds out?"Johnson  asked.

"He won't,don't worry"Mary assured  him.
