PRIME SUSPECT

Chapter 9

Eugenia drove into her father's  compound knowing  she was going to be  thoroughly questioned, but she wasn't  even bothered.

She  entered into the sitting  room where her  mom and her dad  were having   break fast.

"Good morning  mom"she greeted   trying  to avoid unnecessary  questions .

"Good morning  dear"her mother replied and continued eating  her food.

"Where  did  you  sleep last night?" her father asked  with a serious  look on his face.

"At my  friend's  place "she replied. 

"Definitely  not Leah, because she's  out of the state,she's in jos"her father  said .

"You are right , I was at not Leah's place, you don't know  the friend I'm talking about" she replied.

Mary didn't bother to interfere, because  she knew   Eugenia  was not going to tell them who the friend was.

She knew  her daughter like the palm of her hand.

"Eugenia,where are you coming from? "her father asked looking  very angry.

Mary  knew her husband  was very  upset and the tone he was using was very uncomfortable.

She stood up   to enter her room, when  her husband  stopped her.

"Where  to? "he asked his wife angrily  and continued .

"Your daughter  left this house  yesterday  morning  and didn't  come  back until this morning, and you claim she's well trained. Is  that how  your  own mother trained  you?" he asked angrily  and continued

" And now she doesn't  want to tell us where  she slept  last night"he said and faced his daughter who was becoming  pissed off already.

"For the last time, Eugenia  where are you coming  from? "he asked .

"You don't ask an adult  that kind question,but I am going to answer I slept at my boyfriend's  place"she said  sounding very angry and frustrated.

Mary was shocked,she looked  away and bent  her head with her heart beating very  fast,not knowing  what to do or say.

"Really? "Her father asked

"Yes dad"Eugenia replied  not looking the least bit remorseful.

"Give me your car keys "her father  commanded .

"You can have it"Eugenia said giving  him the key.

Mary looked up and moved close  to her  husband .

"Johnson please  calm down"Mary pleaded.

"Stay out of this Mary "he told his wife and with a stern voice he looked at his daughter and told her,

"You are grounded"

"Not  a new thing"Eugenia said smiling as she  walked  out.

Mary was surprised, because she was seeing a very different side of Eugenia that she had never seen before , and this side of Eugenia  bothered her greatly .

Mary went to her daughter's  room to talk to her and reason things out with her.

"Eugenia ,you have to apologize to your  father"her  mother told her.

"Why? "she asked  looking  confused .

"You  are  thoroughly grounded "her mother  reminded  her .

"Mom , I know, and that  doesn't  mean  I would  marry Larry"she said and lay  on her bed  closed  her eyes  and pretended  to be fast asleep.

"Eugenia "her mother  called

"Mom, please shut the door behind you when you leave. " Eugenia said as she pulled the covers over her head.
