Liam’s POV

“Shh Rianna, it’ll be okay. Don’t think about it,” I whispered softly into Rianna’s ear while stroking her knotted, greasy hair. She was wailing underneath my touch, her pale face nearly blending into the stark white sheets of the ambulance bed. Her forehead was soaked with sweat and she was panting heavily, the soft gauze the paramedics had wrapped around her foot leaking red.

My hand traced delicate cirlces on her shoulderblade, too afraid to hurt her even more, although from the sharp agony in her foot I doubted she was even feeling my touch at all. Louis and Zayn needed to drive to the hospital on their own, but because I refused – and possibly threw some sort of fit – I was begrudgingly allowed to accompany my poor, suffering friend in the ride to the clinic.

The events of last night continued to replay in my head, but I tried to push them away and focus on the Rianna of now.

“Liam,” she cried weakly, her muscles so tense I could see them nearly bulging out of her delicate skin.

“Shh babe, we’re almost there,” I whispered into her ear, becoming a fiery red when I realized I had just called her babe. She didn’t seem to notice, obviously having more important things to worry about. I gazed down at her foot cautiously, trying not to make any sounds of disdain when I saw the saturated gauze drip with blood, her blood.

The same blood that was rushing to her cheeks the night before when I leaned in, dying to kiss her… I shook my head roughly. What ever had come over me to get that urge to feel her touch me? My goodness, it’s like I’ve lost all of the manliness and loyalty I’ve ever had. What would Bell think? And Niall?

Except they didn’t matter at all during Rianna’s and mine close proximity before…

Stop, Liam. Focus on Rianna now. Make sure you comfort her as best you can.

The ambulance slowed down and the wailing sirens finally stop, providing an instant, if not small relief to my pounding head. The vehicle turned slightly, pulling into the hospital, and within seconds doctors ripped open the doors and began rolling my precious friend down the ramp and into the hospital. Panic rose like lava in my throat, and I struggled to spit my words out.

“Wait! I have to come with her! I have to–to protect her, you d-don’t understand!” I wailed, clawing uselessly at the smocks of the doctors. They swatted me away, but before I could attack them a kind secretary pulled me indoors and guided me to a waiting room. I sighed, giving up defeat. What point was there with fighting the doctors that were only trying to help Rianna?

“Please wait here Sir, a doctor will come and speak to you once we have any news regarding your girlfriend,” the middle-aged woman informed me kindly, and I blushed slightly at her words.

“Thank you miss. B-but she’s not my, um… my girlfriend, you see?” I mumbled, and she just laughed and walked away. I swear I had her murmur ‘Teenage Love’ underneath her breath, but she had disappeared before I could interrogate her. Oh well.

Seems like I have a long day ahead of me, once again.

Zayn’s POV

The silence in the car was so overbearing that I felt like I was suffocating beside Louis as we sped through the endless streets to the hospital. My head ached, not being able to comprehend everything. So not only were many of our friends kidnapped, but another one of them was shot too?
