We were meant to walk on water
A race that has defied all the odds
We were meant to walk on water
Something that slavery could not stop
We were meant to walk on water
Melanin power that is a mere pigment in the skin taken and changed into a sun fighting machine
We were meant to walk on water
A race that was defined by stupidity but gave birth to the
Oprah's, Beyonce's and Idris's
We were meant to walk water
We watch our oppressors gloat about nation's that were built on the backs of our ancestors
We were meant to walk on water
Even when the righteous jealous policeman loaded his gun to aim at our rich melanin skin
We were meant to walk on water
Even when their hands grabbed our women to rape and rob them of dignity resulted in them loosing what little strength they had
We were meant to walk on water
Even when we created music to lift our spirit, they stole our drums but could never steal our DNA encrusted rhythm
We were meant to walk on water
We defied the laws of survival:
•Freed ourselves from slavery.
•Educated ourselves on knowledge that was once forbidden
•Sung praises on the black man that was once shamed
•Freed the hair of a black woman that was once hidden under a wig of hate
•Used the word beautiful on a dark skinned girl
• Witnessed a man tell us He had a dream
• Witnessed that same Man get shot down for having a dream. Rest in peace Mr. King
• The world shook when a 27 year prison sentence was administered for a Man that fought for freedom. Joy is what we felt when he took his first steps of freedom
•Tears were shed across the world when that same Man took his last breath of freedom. Rest in peace Madiba
• Realization of a once forgotten dream dawned on Americans when a young black man walked up to a podium and declared that he was running for president
• Black history was made when Barack Obama was announced the 44th President of the United States of America
• Remember the generational pain that every black man and woman has felt? That pain can only occur in Satan's nightmares but never in a white man's reality
For strength to endure pain was never the same for all races
You see these are things that the world does not teach you
Our masters tried to hide it
But how could they hide something that shone from within?
They even tried shaming us into thinking we were born a sin
We might have forgotten the names of our ancestors but we have never forgotten who we are!
(KNOW THE DIFFERENCE)So let it be known that every black child was born
