Chapter 5

Ryan's POV
Me and Devland walked into the forest. We've been walking for about 5 minutes and I haven't let go of his hand. I knew if I let go something bad was gonna happen. "You know you don't have to hold my hand anymore" Devland said. "Oh I know. I just don't want to let go because I know the second I do something bad is gonna happen" I said. Devland giggled then nodded. We continued walking for a bit.

We eventually reached a big tree. Like it was huge. Devland turned around and asked "wanna climb it?" "Wait what?" I asked. I didn't expect him to ask that. "Do you wanna climb the tree?" He asked again. I smiled and said "sure. It's up to you" "ok let's climb it" He said happily. I didn't really want to because I knew I was gonna get hurt but it was for Devland. By the time I looked up Devland was really high. He was almost to the top.

He then wrapped his legs around the tree and started hanging up side down. IS HE FUCKING CRAZY?!? "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!? YOU'RE GONNA FALL" I screamed. To be honest I was scared. I didn't want him to fall. "Ryan the only way to have a fun life is to take risks" he screamed back. I looked at him still scared and screamed "that's not how life works at all" "well that's what you told me a few years ago" he screamed. Fuck. I did tell him that. Well I guess I'm climbing this tree. I hope this goes well.

I got up the tree and Devland was sitting down. Instead of hanging like the fucking monkey he is. I sat by him and he smiled at me. His smile was soo beautiful. He stopped smiling for a long time. Every day at school since I left him he never smiled. All because of me. It's weird how one person can change someone's life completely. I mean I know he said he doesn't hate me but I hate myself for leaving him. I feel really bad.

"Hey Ryan?" Devland asked out of the blue. "Yes Devland?" I said. I was prepared if it was an important question. Sometimes he asks questions with deep meaning that make you think. "If you crash a car on purpose is it still called an accident?" He asked. Oh it was one of his stupid questions. I was about to answer when he spoke again. "Also if Cinderella's shoe fit perfect how did it fall off? Why doesn't glue stick inside of the bottle? Most importantly why do prison buses have emergency exits?" He asked. "Wait what?" I asked. How many questions did he have in his head.

He looked at me and started laughing. I was still confused. All those questions made me think. Wait why do prison buses have emergency exits? Wouldn't the prisoners just escape? Devland stopped laughing and looked at me. "You alright?" He asked. "Yea I'm ok. I'm just trying to process your questions" I said. He looked at me with a smiled and said "oh you don't have to I was just trying to see how much you would think about that" "oh ok. I was ready to answer them" I said. Devland looked at me and smiled. Ok I would say his smile is beautiful again but I think you guys don't need to hear me ramble on about how much I love him. "We should probably get down now" he said. "Alright. You go first. Since you're a better climber" I said. Devland giggled and started climbing down.

Devland's POV
I got down and looked up at Ryan. He was looking down at me. Wow we were really high up. Ryan looked scared. "What's wrong?" I asked. "I don't like how high I am" he said. Oh shit I forgot he was scared of heights. I looked up at him and asked "why did you go up if you're afraid of heights?" "I did it for you. I just wanted to make you happy" he answered.

Ok I knew he had a crush on me but I didn't know that he would do something he was afraid of doing just for me.

I climbed back up the tree to where Ryan was. Which was a workout. "Ryan. You don't have to do things just for me" I said. He looked at me with tears and said "I'm just trying to make you happy. I know you don't love me like I love you but you're going through a lot and I just wanted to see you smile". I don't know how to respond to that. I held his hand and looked him in the eyes. "It's ok Ryan I should have remembered that you were afraid of heights" I said. I then grabbed him and hugged him tight. He hugged me back. He kept saying sorry over and over again. "Ryan it's ok I promise. Just come try to climb down for me. Please" I said. He nodded slowly. "How about this? I'll climb down with you" I said. "I would like that" Ryan said wiping his tears away.

After about 7 minutes we got down. Ryan looked fine now but I still gave him a hug. I felt bad. He did something he was afraid of doing for me. Ryan looked at me and asked "wanna keep walking?" I nodded. Before we took off I grabbed Ryan's hand. Ryan smiled at me and we continued walking for a good 20 minutes and I kept thinking. If we happen to get lost we wouldn't know how to get back. I mean this is Ryan's first time coming back here too.

Ryan then stopped. "My shoe is untied" he said. "Oh ok" I said. He bent over to tie it and said "you can go ahead of me. I'll catch up" "um ok" I said. I started walking ahead. I felt weird. Like something bad was gonna happen. I turned back and Ryan was getting up. He was dusting himself off. I didn't like being ahead. It made me feel weird. Ryan started walking towards me. I ran to him and hugged him immediately. "Did you get scared?" Ryan asked. I nodded. He wrapped his arms around my waist. I felt soo safe in his arms. It felt like no one would hurt me at that moment. I looked up at Ryan and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Ryan's POV
OH MY GERARD WAY!!! Devland just kissed my cheek. I am never gonna wash my face again. Wait I thought he didn't like me. I looked at him with disbelief. I looked back down. I don't know what I was feeling. "RYAN!!!" I heard Devland scream. "Yea" I said. "Do you wanna go back?" He asked. I looked at him and said "yea" "ok let's go" Devland said. He grabbed my hand and we started walking back.

We got back to my house and sat on the couch. "What do you wanna do now?" I asked. "Can we watch a movie and snuggle?" He asked. I smiled at him and said "of course. What do you want to watch?" "Edward Scissorhands" he said. I put in the disk and laid down by Devland. I felt Devland snuggle up to me. "Do you want a blanket?" I asked. Devland nodded so I got up to get a blanket. I felt Devland grab my arm. "Nooooooo. I'm cold. Come back" he said. "I'm gonna get us a blanket. I'll be back quick. I promise" I said. Devland nodded and laid back down.

I went upstairs and got my big fluffy blanket. I walked back downstairs and Devland was still laying down on the couch and watching the movie. I laid down with the blanket and put it over us. I put my arms around Devland and he snuggled up to me. Half way through the movie Devland fell asleep. I was going to check my phone and realized I missed a text from my mum. It was only 5 minutes ago. Oh she's coming home early. I texted back ok and continued watching the movie. I soon fell asleep during the movie.
