Chapter 13 - The Scroll

“Ladies, you are all required to gather at the arena.” The soldier said and all of them started to walked towards the place.

Today we will know if we will be accepted as a warrior and will be trained more for the sake of the kingdom. I really worked hard for the past days as well as Lily, we must be qualified. It is my only way to enter the palace.

It is my only way to find out more about myself.

For the past days, she never seen Lieutenant Geordo and she was relieved. That man gives chills on her and he holds power that she can’t endure.

They were now lined up at the arena waiting for Captain Benedict to show up. Everyone was excited and worried at the same time. For the past two weeks that she’s in the camp, she only befriended with Lily, so she just hoped they will end up together.

However, she also have great feelings towards Gandella, though Lily said she has dark aura but she didn’t give any dangerous feeling to her. She wanted to know more about this girl.

Captain Benedict walked in front of them. He was clutching a scroll in his hands.

“Ladies, today I will be declaring the women who will join the Kingdom forces against the threat of other Kingdom. For two weeks you undergone training that exhaust your body to its limit, you experience different chaos that lead you to become stronger. You gained involvement and skills that developed your true potentials.”

“If ever, you will not be chosen, do not be sad but make this experience your training ground to move forward from here. You know where will you be thrown after this but your experience here will help you to survive.”

“For those who will be chosen, another journey will be given to you. After this selection, you will face the battle outside these walls of the kingdom. You have to devote yourself for the empire and die for the sake of our victory. That was your fate! The fate to offer your life for the conquest of our land!”

“Die for the kingdom! Die for victory!” he shouted and other soldiers shouted with the same word. There loud voices occupied the place and it brings bravery to the people.

This is what they call voice of encouragement. It brings energy to the soldier.

When he finished his speech, he opened the scroll and pinned it to the wood board. Everyone moved towards the scroll and silently read if their names where listed.

Khaliana on the other hand, waited for the others to do it first. She’s excited as well as worried to see if their names were listed but she has to hold her curiosity. She saw other girls were crying and sad, it means their names were not listed. She saw
Gandella and she seemed relaxed, it is obvious that she will be chosen.

“Khaliana! Khaliana!” Lily shouted.
Lily run towards here with an unreadable expression.

Did we get in?

Or we didn’t?

Her expression is difficult to read.

“Our names……” she said grasping for air.

“It was listed on the scroll!” Lily announced in between her breathing.

Her announcement made her run towards the scroll. She went to the board to see it for herself and she saw their names at the bottom. There were only 35 females who qualified out of more than 40 trainees, which means other girls will be entertaining guests soon or become a slave. She felt miserable for them but she doesn’t have power for now.

If I will be given a chance to create a better world than this, I will definitely do my best to make it. This women were part of the society, they must be respected, and they must be cared, but seeing things now, it’s really difficult to turn this chaotic world into harmony.
