Chapter 20
It's been two days since I've been back in London. Hanna and I flew back together. The boys still had to do work in America. My mother and I said our goodbyes after the breakfast she promised Harry. Breakfast luckily went smoothly, unlike dinner. I could feel the vibes my mom gave off, and I know she likes Louis. I would know if she didn't. I still just can't believe she bombarded him that way. On my way back, I had to call the school and explain to them why I had missed so many days of class. It was a little embarassing, but telling them I had a family emergency worked..I guess. I didn't mean to lie, but what am I supposed to say? "Sorry, I ran off with my popstar boyfriend and his band to attend a Hollywood ball?". I think that sounds more of a lie than a "family emergency".
I haven't seen or spoken to Adam since we fought a couple of weeks ago. I bet he probably knew where I was and who I was with. I almost feel bad in a way. He wasn't a bad friend..Even if I hadn't known him that long. Maybe we just said some stupid things to each other in the tension of the moment. I don't know. There are many thing's I cannot stand about Adam, but I have to admit, maybe we were just being dramatic (although he is a pain in the ass).
The summer's almost over and Adam's a lot more closer to that internship than I am.
Note to self, stop missing class.
"Emily, did you pick up the watercolor paints for me? Hanna asked walking in through the door. She set her keys on the dresser along with her bag. "Oh, no Han. I'm sorry. I forgot."
"Em! I really need those paints. I have a last minute assignment. My fanny's on the line here!"
" Okay, okay! I'm sorry. I can still go-"
"Okay Thanks Em! Love you lots!" She hugged me, before I could finish my sentence.
"I have a few paint's that'll do me well for a little while." She added, rummaging through the closet for her canvas.
"Alright Hanna. I'll be back." I said. I quickly put on my shoes and grabbed my purse, putting it over my shoulder.
I took a cab to a small arts & crafts store near the school. It was closer than I thought. Inside the store I first went to look for Hanna's paints but then I couldn't help but buy new sketching pencils. I hadn't finished the drawing I was doing on Louis and I's first date.
The store was nearly empty. They closed early, and then sun was now starting to set. The person at the register looked familiar. I think he had a class or two at the school. It wasn't part of the program though, they were side classes I think. He looked up at me with tired eyes. "Don't worry. It's almost closing time." I smiled. He returned my smile, handing me my items and the rest of my change.
"Now to get back to Hanna." I said stepping out of the store.
Since it wasn't too far from the dorms I decided to walk. The sun went down lower, and lower and the sky was a dark blue and pink. Chilly air began to flow and I had forgotten my jacket.
Oh well.
Louis and I hadn't spoken very much today. He was busy in LA writing with the boys, and then I think they were being interviewed for the 100th time. I missed him. The night we spent in my room we cuddled all night until around 3 am. At 3 he had fallen off the bed due to us thinking my mom was coming in to check on us. It was pretty funny actually, we felt like little kids. Good thing he landed on the other mattress because if not it would've made a louder sound.
I contiuned on my walk, almost arriving back to the room. The cafe' was in my view. I wond;er if Adam's working today..
The wind blew against my skin, and coffee sounded very good. Hmm. Hanna can't get mad at me for taking long if I bring her a cup.
I walked inside and there were many students, as usual. Especially at this time.
"Hello, what can I do for you love?" The woman at the counter asked. I recognized her. She was the same woman who would always yell at Adam.
"Two mocha latte's." I said. She smiled, writing down the order. "Is that all?"
"Yes." I replied. I handed her my money, and she looked at me. "You're friends with that Adam aren't you? I think I remember. " She said.
"Uh. Well I come in here often."
"I think he's here somewhere, but try not distract him again. I've had to save him twice already from getting fired."
"I'll get out of here before he even sees me." I smiled. She nodded and I found a nearby seat.
Music was playing instead of the television being on. It was faint, but I could make out the tune.
It was Ed Sheeran, who I have yet to meet. I hear from Louis that he and the boys are close friends with him. I keep telling him I want to meet him.
I looked down at my phone, checking the time. Hanna texted me asking where I was. I was taking a little longer than I thought I would. Maybe walking wasn't a good idea.
"Well bloody hell. Look what the cat dragged in."
I turned to face him, and he had that annoying look on his face. "This is a coffee shop. I come in here to get coffee." I said. He rolled his eyes,
"Alrighty then. I'm sure you didn't come in here to see me at all."
"Adam- "
"You miss me. I'm oh-so handsome and you just had to see my face, I know." He chuckled, setting coffee mugs into a bin.
"Will you ever stop?"
"Nope I don't think so." He replied. "Emily." The woman called my name. I grabbed my cups of coffee, setting them on the table.
"Adam. As much as you're a pain in the ass and I want to make fun of your apron, I- I..kind of wanted to see you."
"Really? I didn't think you had time with all your little holiday's and all. Or don't you American's call them vacations?" He said, wiping down a table. "I just want to talk."
"I'm not looking to make ammends love."
"Fine. You know what, if you're going to be this immature- Then me either."
"Awe. Then where else will you get coffee?" He said. I grabbed mine, heading towards the door.
"Starbucks!" I yelled out.
He let out a loud 'dramatic' gasp. "Goodbye Adam."
I walked out, checking the time again. There was another text from Hanna. I slid my phone up, attempting to text her back but-
"Shit!" I screamed. I dropped one of the cups of coffee, including my phone. My shoes were now drenched. My phone's battery had fallen out and was somewhere on the floor.
"Real smooth." He said.
"Adam, go back to work."
"I'm officially off now. So nope. I'm heading back home to sleep. Here." He handed me my phone battery. "Thanks. Goodbye now."
"Wait, wait. Why you heading off so fast?"
"You're not looking to make ammends, and now neither am I. So why are you wasting my time?" asked. He shrugged, "Emily. I'm..Okay. I'm.."
"Yes?"
"Dearest Emily.."
"Seriously..."
"I'm sorry.. Let's be..friends..again?" He said. I smiled, nudging him. "Alright. Friends again."
Adam walked me back to the room and I brought Hanna her coffee. She was a little angry at me for being late, but she was almost done with her assignment anyway. My shoes were stained to hell, so I had to dispose of those sadly. I blame Louis for getting me into wearing Toms.
The night went on, and I still hadn't heard from Louis. He promised he'd call before 11, but still nothing. I sighed, closing my eyes and turning to my side. If anything maybe he'll text me and I'll see it when I wake.
