It'd been weeks. You hadn't been getting any sleep, you hadn't left your house. Why? You were busy watching the mirror to L's life. It was so interesting watching the case in the human realm play out from his perspective. But you had a horrible feeling about all this. With a life as tragic as his his death would be just as tragic if kira caught up to him.

So much dread filled your body but you couldn't look away.

You paced your marble floors, the mirror propped up against the wall as you watched L get ready to move hotels. You'd gone to the library of life earlier that week and found his book, read through all of it. It wasn't finished since he wasn't dead, but all the details about him you now knew made you worry about him even more. Deities aren't meant to get this invested in the life of a human but you just couldn't help it. You were a goddess of love after all, all you wanted for this sweet damaged boy was for him to be happy. To be loved and for him to love himself, which he clearly didn't.

You ran a hand through your hair, wondering what to do. You just wanted too swoop in and take him back to the aether, but alas that wasn't possible. His human body wouldn't survive the flight to the clouds.

But... the ruler did say that you were allowed to intervene when it was absolutely necessary. And surely this was right? He was walking a tightrope and if he slipped he'd die in an instant.

"Aaahhhh! L why are you such a risk taker!?" You complained to yourself.

He was going to get himself killed at this rate. You didn't want to stand by in the clouds and just watch that happen.

Maybe... maybe you should intervene. It would also mean you'd be able to come into contact with the Shinigami and ask them what the fuck they were thinking. But how would you do that?

If you went down to the human realm there was one rule you had to follow: a deity mustn't be obvious. In other worlds you'd have to take on a human form to blend in. Kiss your wings goodbye, and most of your powers too. There's no way L would just let a random human girl into the case without any information on her.

Unless...

What if you presented yourself to him as a goddess first? Then took on a human form once he knew you could be trusted and you could help solve the case. Sure you'd be breaking a few rules... but it was to save a life, and possibly the lives of many. It was a risk, a massive one. But it was worth it wasn't it.

You'd just have to be mindful of how you went about the human world. In the aether it's normal for a deity to walk past a candle have have it light on its own. But in the human realm not so much.

Should you?

You looked over at the mirror. At the boy it showed you. You'd gotten attached to him over these few weeks, you weren't letting this boy die.

You grabbed the mirror, your satchel and rushed into your room, grabbing a few dresses and any other things you'd need and shoved them along with the mirror into your bag. Going into your kitchen you grabbed three things, a bottle of rose water, a bag of ambrosia leaves and your biggest rose quartz you had on display. All essential items in magic.

Finally you grabbed one last thing, your flute. Your powers in a human form we're extremely limited, but magic through music could at least with healing.

You rushed out the door, spreading your wings and taking off into the skies zooming past cathedrals and gardens to the hole in the clouds the lead down to the human realm. You looked back at the aether for what would be the last time in a long while and dived down into the portal. Zooming through the clouds, you started to see land below you. No human could see you until you made yourself known, so you'd be safe flying over the cities.

As the land got closer, buildings starting to become prominent, you came to a gentle glide, letting the wind carry you among the tops of buildings. The world had really progressed since the 1800s. You'd seen most of it though the windows but it was so different in person. You recognised the famous crosswalk in Tokyo below you, hundreds of humans on the streets. Now you knew where about you were, you needed to track down L.

If you remembered correctly it was the Hideyoshi hotel he was staying at. You scanned down street signs, maps scattered around at bus stops and train stations, and eventually you got the general direction.

You flew for about five minutes until you saw the building up ahead of you.

"Found you"

Taking the mirror out of your bag, you looked at him setting up his laptop in his room. You looked for any sign of a room number but couldn't find one. But you did notice a wind chime on the balcony. You approached the hotel, looking on all the balconies for a wind chime. Eventually you spotted it about 16 stories up.

Landing on the balcony, you looked through the glass doors, there was the man himself. The one you'd been religiously watching for the past few weeks. His aura was a sad one, full of guilt, depression, trauma and self loathing. It saddened you to know this man who was just trying to help the world was so hurt inside.

You walked up closer to the doors. Your wing hit the wind chime making it jingle rather loudly, the noise made you jump, and apparently it made L jump too. He snapped his head around to look at it. It wasn't windy and as far as he knew no one else was here. He looked around, seeing no one as you weren't visible to him get. Walking through the door, you sighed. You'd have to say goodbye to walking through walls soon.

You walked up to him, getting a close up look at him.

He was pale, very pale. His hair was thick and fluffy. His eyebags prominent and dark. He smelt like coffee and icing, and his expression was a resting somber gaze.

"Oh darling..." you whispered.

You bought a hand up to his cheek, he jumped and tried to brush it away only having his arm go right through yours. He must have felt your presence.

"When I'm done with you you'll love yourself more than anything" you sighed.

You watched him walk though you, over to the wall to plug in his laptop.

"Why does it suddenly smell like strawberries and roses?" He mumbled to himself.

Oops, that'd be you. All deities have nice aromas around them.

"Well looks like I'll have to make myself known to the human eye now..."

You held your mirror up to your face, the image of L's life now showing you in the room with him.

"Mirror, make me known"

Your skin began to glow, L's attention suddenly drawn to the sudden light in the dark room.

"What the-" he said.

In a quick burst of light, you shifted from one plane of existence to the other, and now L could see you, hear you, touch you. His usual somber look turned to shock and slight fright as he froze with his eyes locked on the winged woman in front of him.

"Goodness, I haven't had to do that since 1867..." you sighed.

"Wha- uh-"

"Oh good you can see me. Listen L Lawliet, I know this is weird. I know this is sudden. But I'm here because Kira has the power of a death god and us pure deities need to make sure the human race is as protected as possible. You're in grave danger my dear, I'm here to protect you"
