Chapter 12 | bribed

Ryuk was a simple death god, give him an apple and he'll tell you everything you need to know. You could say apples were his sacred fruit. So Light had given him a basket full of them to get the information about all the other deities out of him. And it was a lot to take in.

"So there's six realms all together. The human, Shinigami, Aether, MU, underworld and high lands?"

"That's all of them. At least all that I know of. Us Shinigami don't really care for the others. Just the human, MU and our realm" Ryuk said, munching on an apple.

"And (y/n) is from the aether? What exactly is the aether?" Light asked.

"It's basically the opposite of the Shinigami realm. It's home to all the deities that control human life. The deity's of love, fertility, life, nature and art reside there. They watch humans as we do, but instead of taking human lives when their time is up, they assist in their life. They assist with a humans birth, and once they've grown and overcome all their hardships the human is passed onto the Shinigami to kill when their time is up"

Light thought for a moment, before grabbing a pen and notebook to write all the confusing information down.

"Better hide that book too, this is all valuable information" Ryuk said.

"I know. And (y/n) is a love deity correct?"

"Yep, that strawberry smell she has is that of a love deity. They assist humans in all kinds of love. Romantic, self, platonic and familial. I've never seen one on earth though, I didn't even recognise her as a deity at first. Usually athereals have wings, wear robes, go barefoot. They're very minimalistic creatures. They don't feel a need for lots of belongings or fancy clothes. Just the essentials and love of those around them. I never understood that"

"Of course not, you're a god of death. You wouldn't understand love"

"Neither do you"

Light stayed silent and continued to write. Trying to come up with a way to get rid of a deity. As long as you stood between him and L, there was no way he was going to succeed as becoming fully Kira.

"What's the highlands?" Light asked.

Ryuk picked up another apple, swallowing almost whole.

"They're like they big boss gods. All us lower gods call them the Kami after your language. The most well known and most powerful gods live there. It's impossible to get to their realm unless they let you in or you gain enough power to break the barrier" he explained.

"The highest realm of the most powerful gods huh... sounds like a good place for kira..."

"You're not serious thinking of trying to get up there are you? Even the Shinigami king can't get up there. Plus, I doubt anyone would let you in after killing so many people"

"Then I'll need to break the barrier"

"You're a human light, you can't even fly into the nearest realm" Ryuk sassed.

"I'm sure there'll be a way"

"I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. If (y/n) is a love deity that means she probably has Aphrodite on her side. And she's known for loathing those who can't love in any way like yourself"

Light turned to the Shinigami, with a now empty apple basket. He crossed his arms, a plan already forming in his head.

"Who said I can't love?" He said.

"Your silence earlier. You can't just act either, love deities are able to pick up on that"

"If Aphrodite is real, that means other old gods from myths are too right?"

"Yes, all the different regions of the world have Kami. But the Greek, Egyptian, Japanese and Norse are known for being most active. They haven't interacted with humans in centuries but they've done it the most in history" Ryuk explained.

"Well if kira is drawing the attention of all 6 realms, and there's already a Shinigami and athereal in the human realm, that means more deities are likely to intervene no?"

Ryuk gave Light a quizzical look. The smug look on the wannabe gods face told the real god that he was up to something.

"Yes? It's possible. What are you getting at?"

"There's plenty of stories of gods falling for humans and giving them their power isn't there?" Light said.

Ryuk burst into laughter at Lights suggestion. He was really willing to go that far? Man, his god complex had grown insufferably big.

"You're not seriously thinking of seducing a deity?" Ryuk laughed.

"Why not? I've done it to humans, who says I can't do it to a god. Eros fell for a human and she ended up immortal didn't she?"

"If you actually manage to pull it off I'll give up apples for a month"

Light turned back to his notebook, adding more notes on this forming plan to the pages of information. He could hide this with the Death Note, no one would find it.

"That's if other deities even come down to the human realm though. If (y/n) is attached to L there's no way you'd be able to seduce her" Ryuk chuckled.

"I don't expect to seduce her, she's clearly involved with L and won't back down any time soon"

The wannabe god, now hard at work forming a plan to become a literal god was already considering what he'd accept as offerings from humans. The Shinigami behind him thought he was getting ahead of himself, but he wasn't going to stop it. This was prime entertainment for him.

Meanwhile you sat opposite L tea and cakes on the coffee table in front of you. As L worked through some case files, you finished up your little project for him. That protective crystal necklace you made him needed two other things. You'd tied a tiny jar with a crushed up ambrosia leaf form your wreath in it and you'd added a ring from the aether among the crystals too. If that necklace were to break, he could wear the ring and it'd protect him for a week longer.

"L"

He looked up at you, seeing the necklace you held out for him.

"What will these do?" He asked.

"Protect you from any negative energies. The crystals are for luck, abundance, self love and protection. The little jar has ambrosia in it and if you find yourself severely hurt you can eat it for instant healing. The ring is a backup, if the necklace breaks you can use the ring for a week of protection until I can get you something new" you explained.

You got up, grabbing your mirror and handing it to him, walking around behind him to clip the necklace around his neck as he watched you in the mirror.

"As long as you have this no negative energies can hurt you. No Shinigami, no malicious spirits and no evil entities. This isn't immunity, just protection. The death note and any other weapon can still hurt you. In not powerful to meddle with life and death. I'm just a love deity after all, but this is the least I can to to keep any malicious Shinigami away"

He looked at himself in your mirror, the necklace hanging the charms over his heart. The tiny jar of ambrosia emitting a slight glow.

"Thank you, you really don't need to do all this you know?" He said.

"Yes I do, it's my job to protect you now. With this Shinigami and kira messing with the balance of the realms, of a realm war breaks out I can at least save you from it" You replied, smiling down at him.

He smiled back, a rare sight from L. But it was genuine. You'd actually been seeing him smile at you more often recently, maybe all that rose water was starting to work. The moment was interpreted by a knock at the door, the taskforce showing up. With one more smile, L got up to let them in, handing you back your mirror.

You watched him open the door for the taskforce, when your mirror glowing caught your attention again. Looking down at it you saw the rose again, this time it was much bigger, like it'd bloomed more.

"So the person in love is back... right when the taskforce show up. It must be one of them then..."
