Chapter 39 | return to the underworld

"Ow-"

"the know, it'll be over soon"

You finished wrapping the bandages around L's chest and back, under his arms to cover the now scabbing over wing growth. The wing bones finally broke the skin, resulting in a bit of blood and a lot of pain. So you suck some dressing over the marks to stop the bleeding and secured everything with some bandages.

"That should stop the bleeding, I'd say maybe a week or two before feathers start to show up" you explained.

"I didn't think it'd be this painful" he replied.

"The sex was worth it though" you teased.

"...yeah"

You laughed, turning to your bag you packed up your stuff ready to go on a little trip to the underworld. You had the death note ready to give to hades.

"Can I come? I'm bored in here all day not being able to work" L asked.

"You should be resting"

"But it's boring"

"You sure you have the energy?"

"For a trip there and back yes" he said.

You sighed, you couldn't say no to him.

"Alright. Maybe hades will have something for the pain"

You had L wrap an arm around you to lean against you and you were off to the underworld. Opening a portal to the astral realm, you stepped inside, heading through the galaxy like void to the nearest entrance to the underworld. Occasional orbs or spirits zipping past.

"Are we going to be followed again?" L asked.

"Depends on of any spirits get curious. You'll probably be able to hear them speaking now since you've got deity ears" you replied.

"Do other deities visit the underworld?"

"Sometimes. But the underworld is under the rule of Hades and Persephone. You wouldn't catch Aphrodite down there unless the world was ending, she and Persephone..."

"Yes I remember you telling me about that rivalry. I'm guessing you wouldn't catch them dead in the same room" L said.

"Not in a million years"

Approaching the cave entrance, you stepped inside, the atmosphere changing to that of the underworlds. Walking down the cave halls you came into landscapes of the underworld.

"I'm going to take a guess and say he'd be in the throne room, better head that way" you said.

Before you could take a step, there was a low growling behind you that almost made the both of you jump out of your skin. You turned, and behind you stood Cerberus. Towering over you with glowing eyes on all three heads.

"Hey... puppy..." you said.

"Puppy? That's a whole hellhound!" L exclaimed.

One of the heads came down to sniff the two of you, unsure weather you were in intruder or not.

"Thats enough Cerberus"

The hellhound stepped back, and from behind you walked Hades. He touched the hellhounds nose affectionately.

"They're ok, no need to get defensive" He said.

Cerberus backed off, going off to guard the gates of the underworld. Hades turned to the two of you, he looked a bit frustrated like he'd received bad news.

"What brings you back?" He asked.

"We got one of the books" you replied, reaching into your bag and handing the death note to him.
