"You will all be split into groups and a Never and Ever from each of those groups will be in the trial by tales." Yuba announced. Immediately, excited murmurs broke out in the forest group.
"Hester, Beatrix, Kiko and Ravan are a group. Sophie, Anadil, Tristan and Archanne. Vex, Tedros, Agatha and Reena..." The teacher continued on splitting the groups until everyone was in a group. "A red handkerchief will appear in your pockets. Use it when you give up. No one should be killed. Especially now since it's just the selection of the teams. You will be battling against each other. Never and Ever battle against each other, I mean. Finger glows are allowed. Remember, no killings. Start. Now." Yuba started the mini battles. Sophie and Archanne battled and ended with Archanne giving up with a loud groan. While, Anadil and Tristan battled with Tristan flinging his handkerchief out of his pocket, nose bleeding. Hester and Kiko with Hester winning, Beatrix with Ravan with Beatrix winning. Vex and Tedros with Vex losing, Agatha and Reena and Reena lost. Hort was against Millicent and sadly(for him), he lost which meant no chance of winning Agatha.
Soon the teams were up. 5 Nevers and 5 Evers. Everyone crowded around a poster to see who was participating in the Trial By Tales.

A bubble of conversation burst out.
"How is Hort in it!" Hester groaned, annoyed that the worst boy was in her team.
"How am I not in it!" Dot grumbled.
"I want to be in it! I want to protect the Evers!" Ava cried.
"Professor Manely said it was 10 people in each team!" Drax roared.
"Manely wasn't the one to announce it and he barely knew anything!" Yuba barked back at Drax and smacked him on his bottom. "I forgot to say, everyone! The person's name your name is next to is the one you will be competing against!" Yuba called and waddled back to his hut. Tedros and Agatha, who had been celebrating froze. They would be battling each other? Sophie realized.
"Aggie. Tedros. No!" She gasped.
"Surely...swap...no...Tedros..I" Agatha spluttered. Tedros's throat bobbed.
"Surely there's a way to swap-" He began.
"There's no way to swap!" Yuba yelled from his window.
"I'll help you two. Don't worry. I'll help you both. I don't care if I die during that process, but I will help." Sophie whispered to Agatha and Tedros. They looked at her gratefully, but shook their heads.
"Thanks, Sophie. But no. You battle Hester." They said together.
"Nope, I will help and you can't do anything about it." Sophie disagreed and went off with Beatrix, Millicent and Reena for dinner. Beatrix was in the middle of complaining.
"I'm with Anadil! How do I compete against that? She has her rats!" Beatrix moaned.
"While Hester has her Demon. But, I'll help you, Beatrix." She offered, though she knew she was already helping her two other friends. Beatrix grinned and accepted, not knowing that Sophie was in grave danger of being killed now. They sat at an empty table, planning how to help.
"I'll sneak to your area and help you battle while Hester looks for me." Sophie confirmed, confidently.
"Yes! Fantastic idea!" Beatrix agreed and beamed. But little did they know that the coven were listening from a nearby table. They would be prepared. They smirked and silently cackled, wickedly.
"I'll sneak to your area and help you battle!" Hester mimicked.
"Not a chance." Anadil laughed.
So for the whole of dinner, Anadil and Hester eavesdropped on Sophie and Beatrix's conversation, scraping up the Evers' plans and making their own.
