____"But there's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark.
You should know you're beautiful just the way you are.
And you don't have to change a thing,
The world could change its heart.
No scars to your beautiful.
We're stars and we're beautiful."
- Alessia Cara.
_____Dad came to pick me in school yesterday because he wanted to take me to JAMB office. I wondered why at first but he later told me my JAMB score has been sent. I scored 223. Pretty low right? Yeah. Last year, I had 243. I cried when I saw my score to be 223 because I prepared really hard and I even said I didn't think that was my real score.
Anyway, Dad calmed me down and told me what has happened, has happened. I changed my course from Pharmacy to Biochemistry and changed my school from OAU to FUOYE. Since it was nearer, there was no point going to a faraway school to study a course I can do nearby. When I got home, I checked the net about the course. It wasn't as bad as people talk about it. In fact, it's one of the best science courses. I felt better again.
After eating and resting for a while, Mum called me aside and advised me. She told me I didn't have to feel bad about the score and all that. I felt relieved after all that. My brother also sat me down and talked to me. Well, even though they're overprotective, they're still the best one could ask for. They've always been supportive when I'm at my lowest.
Retiring to my room, I messaged Jared. Though, Demmie told me to talk to him in person but at least, I have to tell him first that I want to talk to him. After about 10 minutes and he didn't reply my message, I cleared my chats with him, switched off my data and slept off.
Today is Wednesday. Lydia, Sarah, Ella, Demmie and I are in the staff room. Our English teacher was advising us about the spelling bee and things we needed to do. He gave each of us a school dictionary and told us to practice with it and that after the whole competition, we would return the Dictionaries. That means, nothing must happen to it since it's school property.
The school has hired a spelling bee coach for us too. Apparently, the coach is the one who trains the school's spelling bee representatives yearly. He was a man and he looks 30. He still looks quite young though, and from what I've seen, he would be friendly and encouraging. Well, that's good. It would make learning the words more easier. He also printed some words from other origins like German, French, Spanish, etc. and gave each of us a copy of the print-out to practice.
When we were done, we went back to the hall to meet our other classmates. Lydia and I walked to meet Jetemi. She was also practicing the speech she was going to deliver the same day of our competition. As the senior girl, she has to be bold and eloquent, so she had to prepare for it. We sat down and started reading our Dictionaries too. Our other classmates were making noise. Some were reading, while others were playing around the hall.
After about two hours of reading, we took a break and went to the tuckshop to get something to eat. I bought cakes and a drink as usual. Jetemi and Lydia also bought their choice of snacks. We were on our way back to the hall when I sighted Jared.
He was walking towards B class. I excused myself from the girls and told them I'll join them in the hall. When they walked further, I walked to B class. The door was open, but not completely. I entered through the front and stood beside the door for awhile, to be sure Jared wasn't with anyone. He can't see me though, because the door was obstructing and he was seated at the back. Then, I heard another voice which wasn't Jared's. It was Demmie's.
