________"I worry there's something broken in our generation. There are so many sad eyes on happy faces."
- Atticus.
___"Awwn. Thank you so much, Demilade. You're the best!" Lilian said to me.
It's the first day of April and also Lilian's birthday. People have been greeting her since morning. Not just our mates but also from other classes. I wasn't surprised as the turnout of her birthday gifts and birthday cards were extremely many, despite her being a boarding house student. Lilian is a cheerful and friendly person. She's good to juniors and nice to everyone. Some of their ex classmates even came visiting, so as to give Lilian a birthday gift. As for me, all I could afford was just a little biscuit I got from a supermarket the last time I followed Mum to one.
"Announcement to all science students oh! Your Chemistry teacher is calling you guys in the lab." Ella exclaimed from the hall door, loud enough for everyone to hear. When she was sure we heard her, she ran out of the hall.
"Oooh God! What again now? This man should let us rest jare." Jetemi said, squeezing her face.
"Like for real, he should let us rest our brain small nah." Lydia replied.
"Stand up jare!" Thomas, who had been standing behind us for a while, unknown to us said. I was startled and jumped a bit but calmed down again. "The only thing you people know is gisting." Then, he faced me. "Demilade, better talk to your friends and let's go to the Lab so that we can sit in front."
"Me that I'm low-key wishing Ella will still come back and shout that she's joking."
"Joke nikan ko. Let's go already. People are going, or we won't be able to sit in front."
Sluggishly, Lydia, Jetemi and I stood up and searched for our Chemistry notes in our respective bags, took it with us and walked to the Lab with Thomas.
Our WAEC exams start in two days time, April third. Our first paper is Chemistry practical, so our teacher has been trying to train us well so we won't do anything wrong that day. He's doing a good job but we also need rest. We train almost everyday now and most of us are getting tired of doing the same practical every day.
We got to the lab and dragged out lab stools to sit. Everyone else were in class already except Dayo. I think he's absent today. Mr Mayowa, our Chemistry teacher wasn't even in class yet too. The guys were discussing about a match they watched the night before. After about ten minutes of waiting, Emmanuel talked about what we came here for.
"Ehn, where's the Mr. Mayowa bai?" Emmanuel said like he was pissed off already.
"I don't know oh. We've been waiting since now, we didn't see the man." Demmie added.
Immediately he said that, Mr. Mayowa walked in. The expression on his face showed he was taken aback to see us there.
"What. . . are you guys doing here?" Mr. Mayowa said.
"What are we doing here bawo?" I muttered.
"Ahh, sir we've been waiting for you since oh." Rachel replied him.
"Me? Why? But I didn't send for you, did I? That was why I told y'all to revise the practical we did yesterday well. I said if you have any problem solving any of the questions under it, then you should come to see me today. Wasn't that what I told you guys?" He said.
