Madison dreamed of her and Brian, going on their first date. Everything was perfect until they got there.
It was some movie theater and he had bought her popcorn, but the popcorn had worms in it. The soda tasted like mud, the movie was five minutes long, the car broke down on the way home and when Brian tried to kiss her goodnight, her mom walked out and demanded to be kissed by him too.
Fortunately, the dream stopped right before that final scene when Madison was woken up by her phone.
She slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes roughly. She grabbed her phone to see she had a phone call from Max. At seven o'clock in the morning.
"What the heck," she muttered as she answered. "Hello?"
"Hi there! You interested in coming to church with me this morning?" Max's voice replied, awake and alert.
"Max, what the heck?! You couldn't have asked that yesterday?!"
"I did...You never replied."
Madison remembered the night before and it dawned on her. "Ohh yeah... Sorry. Uh... Well my parents are asleep, or I would say sure."
"So, wake them up and ask them," he said, as if it was simple.
"Max! I can't just do that!"
"Sure you can! C'mon Maddie. You saying no to Jesus?" he teased.
She frowned. "I'm THINKING of saying no to you, not Jesus."
"Well, maybe I was told by Jesus to invite you. Ever consider that?" he argued.
She rolled her eyes. "Fine. I will go ask them, then call you back. But if they get mad at me for waking them up, it's silent treatment for a week for you."
He laughed. "Deal."
She hung up with an exasperated sigh. Quietly she opened her door and made her way by her sister's room. She kept going until she reached her parent's room but hesitated at the door.
Half of her was yelling to open it, the other half yelling no. Finally, she clenched her teeth and opened it.
She slowly made her way to her parent's bedside. She tapped her mom on the shoulder a few times, knowing that like herself, her mother was a light sleeper. Her mom's eyes slowly came open and she frowned up at Madison in confusion.
"Is something the matter?"
Madison shook her head. "My friend just wants to know if it's okay if I go with him to church this morning," Madison whispered back.
Her mom arched one brow, propping herself up with her arms. "Him? Who's him?"
"Max, the guy who dropped by here the other day."
Her mom was quiet a long time, thinking it over. Finally she shrugged. "I guess so. Message me when you get there and when you're about to head home?"
Madison smiled and nodded. "Of course, Mom. Thank you."
Her mom smiled back at her. "You're welcome. Have fun."
Madison kissed her mom's cheek then returned to her room. She called Max and told him the news. He cheered for joy.
"Awesome! I'll be over there in an hour to pick you up."
"Okay!" Madison replied. She hung up and grabbed a dress out of her closet. She took a quick shower, washing her hair. She got out and put on her bathrobe. She blow-dried her hair and brushed it, then stared at herself in the mirror, wanting to do something different with her hair. She braided a piece of it and pulled it back and bobbie-pinned it. She smiled at her reflection.
