The morning light peaked through Woo Jin's curtains, same as every day for as long as he could remember. Before it annoyed him. To be woken up early every morning. When all he wanted to do was sleep in. But that was before Ha Joon had basically moved in with him.
Two weeks had gone by since his injury. And in that time Ha Joon had spent every night at his place. His parents checked in on him nightly through text. Always with the same questions. How were his grades that day? Did he finish his homework? Any new tests coming up? Woo Jin couldn't help notice, not once did they ask about his recovery.
With his own guilt, Woo Jin asked daily. Although Ha Joon insisted over and over that he was not to blame, he still felt some responsibility for Ha Joon's current state. If he had not pressured him to play in the first place, he would not have become injured.
However, the injury had its benefits. The amount of help Ha Joon needed to move around meant more times he could feel Ha Joon's warm body next to his. To hold his hand each time he needed help standing. Though each of these thoughts led to more guilt as he regretted sexualizing his friend.
"Morning." Ha Joon mumbled from his side of the bed.
Woo Jin rolled over onto his side. "Good morning."
"How can you be so chipper every morning?" Ha Joon said as he stretched and yawned.
"Because I get to see my best friend first thing every morning."
Ha Joon stuck out his tongue. "Too cheesy for this early in the morning."
"Speaking of cheesy, Mom promised she'd make us a western breakfast this morning."
"And that's cheesy?"
"I don't know. Don't they like to eat a lot of cheese?"
Ha Joon rolled on to his back and groaned. "Seriously cheesy."
Woo Jin laughed. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been this happy. At minimum years. Before his cousin's passing. If he had his way, Ha Joon would stay with him forever. And not because of his crush. Ha Joon brought a light to his life he'd been missing. If he could only stay Ha Joon's friend he would be fine with that. Minus the occasional fantasy Woo Jin wouldn't mind. He only feared the day he told Ha Joon his secret. Could he accept a gay friend? Ha Joon was the first person in his life he wanted to share his secret with and the last person he wanted to share with. For now, there was no rush. He would tell him in due time.
"Boys breakfast in ten minutes."
Ha Joon threw back the covers and bounded out of bed. Woo Jin gulped. "Ha Joon. Are you better?"
Ha Joon froze. He leaned off his injured foot. "Nope, still hurts, just forgot." In a quick hobble, Ha Joon rushed to the bathroom. "I'm using the bathroom first."
"Wait, not fair." Woo Jin jumped out of bed to chase Ha Joon down. He missed the door by two seconds. With heavy steps, he walked back to his bed. He hadn't intended to lie down on Ha Joon's side. Normally he slept on that side, but he'd given it to Ha Joon to let him be closer to the bathroom if he needed it in the middle of the night.
Woo Jin curled into the warm space left behind by Ha Joon's body heat. If he couldn't snuggle with the real Ha Joon, he could snuggle with the trace of him.
"All yours." Ha Joon bounded out of the bathroom a few minutes later. Woo Jin jumped and rolled sideways. Right off the edge of the bed. He landed on the floor with an echoing thump. Ha Joon limped to his side. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Woo Jin pulled himself up. "I've fallen off many times before."
"Good, because if you get injured who will take care of me?"
