Emersyn

I sat behind my desk at Emersyn News and stared at the computer screen, trying to force the words to come into focus. The heat from the Moon was frying my brain along with the thought of seeing Octavian again later. Malik sat by my side trying to keep me focused.

"Syn, you didn't have to come in today. Sarah and I can handle the interviews for the kidnap victims," Malik said.

"I know. I just hate that I can't be the one out there looking for the bastards that did this," I said, anger lacing my voice.

"I know. That's why I'm working with some of your contacts to find out if large numbers of Hybrid females have gone missing like this before or anywhere else," he said.

Pride burned through me. Malik was my first PA ever and he was awesome at his job. I smiled at him.

"That's great. These last two weeks have run so smoothly, some days I feel like I don't even need to be here," I said truthfully.

"Doesn't that just mean you're reaching a new level of success," he said with a grin.

"Well yeah, I guess. I was just complaining about being super busy, now I'm complaining about feeling useless," I said.

"You could never be useless, Emersyn," he said, and a shiver went down my spine.

The moon fever burned just under the surface of my consciousness and having this male so close was not helping. I needed to put some distance between us, but I didn't want to pull away as I looked into his sun yellow eyes. There was heat between us, but the moment was interrupted by the buzzing of my intercom. I absently pressed the button while still staring at Malik.

"What, Sherri," I asked.

"There is a gentleman here to see you. He says that he doesn't have an appointment," she said sounding flustered.

She had my attention. Sherri wasn't easily flustered. I wondered if Octavian had shown up early. He was certainly hot enough to fluster me. I lowered my shields enough to feel the energy of every living being in the building. The energy I found was definitely male, but it wasn't Octavian.

"Does this male have a name," I asked.

"He just said that if you let him come to your office you won't turn him away," she said.

"Okay, send him back," I said, curious.

"Yes, ma'am," she said.

"Are you sure about this," Malik asked moving to stand behind my chair.

"I'm not worried about danger. There's enough electricity in this building for me to bring down a whole herd of elephants," I said.

"Okay," he said.

The man came around the corner and as soon as I saw him my heart started doing flip flops. The man who stood in my doorway was tall with wide shoulders and a powerful build. His black hair was close cropped and looked silky even from here. His skin was copper and smooth looking, and I knew that he would never have age lines. His face was square shaped with a tall forehead, angular cheek bones, dark eyebrows, upturned eyes the color of moss framed by long dark lashes, a thin nose set over full lips and a strong chin. The only hair on his face was a thin goatee.

"It's been ages, my sin," he said in the same cultured voice I remembered.

He came to stand right in front of my desk, and I found myself standing too. Though it didn't matter as I still had to stare up at him. The moon fever ignited as memories of our flesh pressed together on silk sheets filled my head. I shook my head to clear the memories.
