Emersyn

Octavian stopped midway into the lobby and I almost ran into him. The scent of his desire vanished and was replaced by something else. I peered around his shoulder.

Even if he hadn't called the woman standing there mom, I would have known she was his mother. Octavian looked like her, though I could tell most of his features must have come from his father. This woman stood next to one of the couches and stared at O. The look in her eyes was a mixture of regret and happiness.

"What are you doing here, mother," Octavian asked.

"You sound like your sister. Why else would I be here? I want to see my children," she said.

She stepped into the lobby entrance way with open arms. O took a step back and bumped into me. It seemed that he had totally forgotten that I was standing directly behind him. I laid my hand on his shoulder. He glanced over his shoulder at me and I gave him a questioning look.

"You want to see us but Tavi and her girlfriend just left out the back door," O said.

"Yes. Your sister and I still can't seem to see eye to eye, but I was hoping things would be different between the two of us," she said.

"I don't know why you would think that. I have nothing to say to you and I haven't since you refused to help Tavi," O said.

"I wish you two would forgive me for that. Your grandfather wouldn't allow any of the wolves to help her. He didn't want to start a war with the Nalogian fae," O's mother said.

I laughed.

"There aren't enough Nalogian fae to go to war with anyone or even stand up to the might of the Osther Pack. The five males Octavian killed were all brothers who were allowed to live for the same reason I was. There are no more fae from that family and the rest of Nalogian hybrid fae have better things to do than go to war with a werewolf pack because some errant children pissed the wolves off," I said from behind Octavian's back.

He stepped to the side so that his mother could see me. Her face grew cold as she looked me up and down. My tiger growled; she didn't like how this wolf was looking at us.

"And how would you know that," she asked.

"Because I am fae. The Nalogians lived in the same hallow hill. I got to know them pretty well before the fae war."

"Mother this is Emersyn Inouye. Emersyn, this is my mother Theodora Osther," Octavian said, throwing his arm around my shoulders.

"I would say 'pleasure to meet you' but the fae don't lie," I said snidely.

"Uh, how rude. Octavian are you seriously going to let that fae insult your mother," Theodora asked.

"I don't see where she insulted you. So far, the first impression you're making on her is that you are a bitch and not just because you are a female wolf," O said.

I fought not to laugh.

"I can't believe my baby boy would speak to me in such a manner," Dora said sounding heartbroken.

"What is it with people we haven't seen in decades showing up demanding we treat them like nothing ever happened," O asked.

"I don't know but I'm sick of it," I said.

"Me too."

He turned back to his mother.

"I have things to do so if you would be so kind as to tell me why you are really here," O said.

Theodora sighed and then said, "I need your help, the pack needs your help."

Octavian let out a sigh. His body tensed up. I knew that whatever the pack needed he was obligated to provide as the grandson of the pack's alpha. Octavian took our coats and hung them over one of the big chairs then sat down before pulling me into his lap. He motioned for his mother to sit across from us. She sat down but looked a little uncomfortable with how I was draped over Octavian's lap.
