Chapter 10:

Elfrida

Melissa was knocking on the door to Tavi's suite around 9am. I groaned as Tavi sat up, taking most of the covers with her. The cool air hit my bare skin and suddenly I was wide awake. Tavi ran her hand through her hair.

"Goddess, it's early. Don't dragon bearers have any sense of time," I said.

"No. They live on a mystical island. Time means nothing to them," Tavi said.

We both groaned as she knocked again and called our names. I climbed out of bed and threw on Tavi's robe. Tavi went into the closet to find something to wear. I opened the door and Melissa was standing there with three cups of coffee and a bag of bagels. She looked as though she had been up for hours and maybe she had. She was obviously a morning person.

"Good morning Elfrida. You don't look like you're ready to go. What about Octavia," she asked, stepping into the seating area.

"Tavi's office hours are 1-10pm. She's rarely out of bed before 10:30 and on days I don't have to go into the office I'm usually in bed longer than that. You could have told us that you wanted to start out this early, we would have at least tried to be ready," I said.

"Well we do have a 6 hour drive ahead of us, I figured the earlier we headed out the earlier we would make it back," she said looking slightly puzzled as I motioned for her to take a seat.

"That makes sense. I don't want to stay anywhere near that place if I can help it. Gimme a second, I'll fast track us getting out of here," I said.

I closed the door that separated the bedroom from the seating room and ventured into Tavi's closet. She was still just standing there staring at the clothes like she was waiting for them to pick her. I grabbed a pair of gray jeans and a pale green tee shirt.

"We need to get going unless you wanna stay in Superior near where we were being held," I said.

"Ugh, I don't see what going back there is going to accomplish. What is that we can find that the SFS didn't," she asked, and grabbed a pair of Levi's and a white tee shirt.

"I don't know but I'm willing to do whatever I can to help catch the assholes that did this. You can stay here if you want," I said, throwing on under clothes.

"I'm going. I just... The thought of going back to that place willingly is making me feel some type of way. We need to destroy that place, when we leave this time. I don't want them reopening shop there or even worse someone else taking over the operation because most of the equipment is still functional," she said.

"Well bring that up to Mel. I'm sure she'll have to okay it with her higher ups but the worst they can say is no and then we can ignore that because we don't work for the SFS," I said.

She laughed and moved to lay a gentle kiss on my lips.

"I love you so much, Elfrida," she said with a slight giggle.

"I know," I said.

I made my way into the bathroom to wash my face, brush my teeth and run my fingers through my long hair. Then I joined Melissa in the seating area. By the time Tavi came to join us I had finished my coffee and two bagels. I grabbed my cell phone, wallet, and overcoat before we followed Melissa out to her car.

"So, Emersyn and Octavian left with your mother this morning," Melissa said.

"Yeah, I know. I think he's a fool for going to help her but hey, what do I know," Tavi said, climbing into the back seat of the car.

"I just hope they aren't gone too long. Minocqua is not a place for weres that aren't wolves," I said.

"It's not but my brother would never let anything happen to her and the pack would do anything for Octavian," Tavi said.
