I walk into the cockpit to find Finn, Han and Chewie. "So how are we getting in." Finn looks back at me. "Their shields have a fractional refresh rate. Meaning it keeps anything not traveling at lightspeed out." I say sitting next to Finn before strapping myself into the seat. "I'm sorry, what? We're really going to be landing at lightspeed?" Finn's eyes widen as he too begins to secure himself to the seat. "Alright Chewie, get ready. On my mark." Han studies the radar screen.
"Now!" Chewie pulls us out of lightspeed as the planet's scenery comes into view. The Falcon cuts through tree after tree. Chewie groans as Han pulls on the throttle. "I am pulling up!" Han's voice booms. Alarms blare as we slam through the snowy forest. In the middle of this mess, Chewie cries out again. "If I pull up anymore, they'll catch us!" Everyone on board jerks as the Falcon skids across the mountain range, slowly coming to a stop. "Everyone good?" I laugh at Finn's horrified expression.
We all throw on warm clothes before heading into the snow; I pull out my old Jedi training robe. I pull the hood over my head and the fabric close to my chest, making sure both mine and Luke's lightsabers are secure before stepping off the ship. "Are you ready to get her back?" Finn pulls the Resistance jacket Poe gave him together before zipping it up. "More than ready." My eyes move to see Han and Chewie pulling out the bombs Finn and I loaded earlier.
The wind whips around us, causing the ends of my robe to blow past me. We all huddled up against an antenna pole, planning out our next move. "Those tunnels over there are our best bet inside. It's just over the ridge." Finn points just north of our current spot. "Um, Finn, just curious. What was your job on base?" My breath comes out with puffs of white vapor from the frozen temperatures.
"Sanitation." His voice was quiet. Han's eyes go wide before speaking. "Sanitation? Then how do you know how to disable the shields?" Finn looks as if he was going to faint. "I don't. I'm just here to help Em get Rey back." I grab the collar of his jacket with rage. "Are you serious? Do you know how many people are counting on us? The whole galaxy is, Finn! That's a lot of people if you ask me." He slowly lowers my hands from their hold on him.
"Em, we'll figure it out! We can use the force." He smiles wide. "You idiot! That's not how the force works!" I nearly smack him. Chewie moans, distracting us. "Oh really? You're cold?" I hiss back at him. "Come on, follow me. I at least know how to get us inside." Finn takes off running towards the tunnels.
We trek down the mountain to a hatch, as we approach Finn slowly pushes down the lever causing the metal to creak as it opens. Once inside, we ditch our outer coats, and descend further into the base. A stormtrooper approaches, doing a double take before raising his blaster. I quickly send him flying into the wall with a flick of my wrist, knocking him out. My blood runs cold as the voice in my head comes to life.
"Han Solo, and my dearest Emery. Welcome." Kylo's voice ricochets in my head. "He knows we're here. I heard him." Han's face runs white, he clears his throat before speaking. "Let's hurry up, the longer we're here the less luck we'll have." Han turns to Finn. I unclip Luke's saber, handing it to Finn, his face is puzzled. "You used it back at Maz's, don't be scared." I giggle, his own laughter coming out. "I'm not scared."
"What about the shields?" Finn's mouth curls upward. "I may have an idea about that." We walked down a hallway, Finn leading the way and myself turning away from the group to make sure no one saw us. Finn holds out his hand signaling us to halt, then ushers us into a closet. A sanitation closet. "Okay, Captain Phasma's office is the next door over. She leaves her office everyday at this time to meet with General Hux to discuss the trooper program. Once she exits, we grab her and force her to disable the shields." Finn's thoughts are full of getting revenge on his old Captain.
"Okay, great and what if she doesn't comply with us?" Han pushes his hair back. Finn looks at me. "We'll use the force." I roll my eyes. "Okay, yes I can use Jedi mind tricks to make her do it. But again, that's not how the force works." Finn slowly opens the door to the closet, Captain Phasma's door creaks open. "Okay, ready.. Now!" The sanitation closet flings open, causing Phasma to jump back. Chewie grabs a hold of her, forcing her through the threshold.
"Remember me? Huh, Phasma!" Finn pushes his blaster just under her helmet. "FN-2187." Her robotic voice fills the small space. "Nope, not anymore. The name's Finn now, and guess what Phasma? I'm in charge now! I'm in charge!" Finn's voice is over exaggerated, and Han puts a hand on his shoulder. "Bring it back down kid, bring it back down." Finn fixes his composer. "Follow me." Finn pulls Phasma out of the closet, the three of us following suit. He leads us down a flight of stairs and into a control room.
"Lower the shields." Finn pokes Phasma in the back with his blaster. "My allegiance is with the First Order. I will not help you." She sits still in the chair. "Maybe this will do some convincing." Han's words roll off his tongue as Chewie raises his hand, thumping Phasma's helmet. The sound echoes off the cold metal of her armor. "Em, just use the force. We need to find Rey and get out of here." Finn pleaded with me. "Okay, okay, don't rush me." I sigh deeply, straightening my shoulders back.
"You will log into the system and deactivate the shields." My voice radiates confidence and discipline. Phasma wiggles in the chair, trying to fight the mind tricks I've used on her. "I will log into the system and deactivate the shields." She turns around in the chair, her hands moving rapidly across the keyboard. We watch the screen turn from red to green as she is granted access in the system.
"She needs to hurry up or we won't have a lot of time to find Rey." Finn grows impatient. "Relax kid, this is going to work." Han silences Finn. The two words we've been waiting for flash across the screen. Shields Disabled. Phasma turns back to face us. "You must be stupid to think you'll get away with this. My troopers will come after you." Finn tenses up. "What do we do with her?" Han looks at Chewie, who groans.
"Is there a trash compactor on this thing?" Han's smile is big.
