AN: I wanted to try something new with this, I don't really know how I liked it, but at least it is something new.
In the country side of New York, there lie David Webster on his back, a pencil tucked between his teeth as he held a notebook up above his head as he was stumped. The retired Paratrooper had just gotten back to the states just two months ago. It was not easy finding a new job after he got back. Though, David was able to land a journalism job for a newspaper business in a small town way out of New York city. So, like any man would do, just a month after getting back to the states after serving in World War II, he moved to the country side. Soon finding out that outside of New York City, that this life, was much more calming. He was finally adjusting and his career was great. Though now, this one journal entry had him stumped. He had been out in the field for maybe more than an hour now. See, for David, that was his most relaxing space. After any nightmare or panic attack, no matter what time of the day, he would go out and sit in the field, watching the stars, the clouds, anything. That field was just his happy place.
As David stared at the notepad he held above his eyes, he was snapped out of his thoughts. "David!" called a familiar voice. He snapped his head to follow where the voice came from. A female in a new length, light green dress stood about fifty feet away. Her hair down and her feet barefoot, like usual. The pencil dropped onto the grass from between his teeth as he smiled at the familiar female.
That female being Y/N L/N. Who had been David's first real friend since moving to the country side. A pretty, outgoing, free, All American woman. David had met her after she ran straight into him at a grocery store. From there, she was cracking jokes already with him and being just a bubbly person. David immediately thought about his old friend George Luz when she spoke to him, and maybe it was that at first that drew his attention to her. Or maybe it was just she was so comfortable with herself and just so open. She was just a person that no one could ever be like. And from there, the two became inseparable. Even if they were almost complete opposites. They were like childhood best friends, but they hadn't even known each other three months.
She ran towards him, wind pushing her hair back. A wide smile, her pearly white teeth gleaming against the sun's rays. David sat his notebook down besides him and pushed himself up to sit. Using his arms to prop himself up. He kept an eye on the female quickly approaching him. Who ran and jumped, landing on the male. Who then wrapped his arms around the woman out of spite. laughter erupted from her lips as she opened her eyes. Now nose to nose with Mr. Webster, whose cheeks were bright red and nervous smile and laugh left his lips. Y/N's eyes squinted shut as laughter kept flowing through her lips.
The woman rolled off of Webster and laid to his side, trying to catch her breath from laughing. Whilst Webster silently wished that she didn't roll away. She laid besides him, turning her head to look at the man once she caught her breaths. "So shark man, how have you been the past couple days?" she asked, placing her hands behind her head, looking up at the clear blue sky. David chuckled and looked up as well.
"Well, I have been stumped on the new journal entry. But besides that, everything is fine," he answered, shrugging slightly as he tossed the notebook and pencil aside. Y/N looked over at him, this time her eyes much softer.
"How have the nightmares been?" her voice soft as she kept her eyes on the man laying in the grass besides her. David immediately frowned slightly and look away, avoiding the female's gaze. He bit his bottom lip and thought for a moment.
"I've been fine, Y/N," was all he said. Y/N was smarter than that and slowly brought her hand from behind her head crept it down lay right next to David's. Their knuckles touching. She looked up at the sky as the man besides her sort of caught on to what she was doing and slowly tucked his fingers between hers.
"You know David, you don't have to lie to me. You don't have to tell me the things that happened back in Europe. But, you know I'm here," she intertwined her fingers with his fully. Her smile coming back to her face as she wanted to lighten the mood. She turned and looked at him. "You can come sleep at my place and we can have a sleepover!" she said. Causing David to turn and smile at her, his worries quickly washing away at the sight of her smile. He bit his bottom lip slightly, the corners of his lips twitching up into a smile. He nodded.
"That sounds amazing, my dear Y/N," he smiled. Y/N giggled and raised her free arm to check her wrist watch. The small laugh causing a smile butterfly feeling to fill the retired soldier's stomach. (SIMP) A thought of confusion coursing through his mind at the new and strange, random feeling. A squeak left Y/N's mouth as she shot up, releasing her hand from his.
"I gotta get to work! David I'll probably see you tomorrow!" she shot up and already began running towards the field. David already missed the feeling of her hand in his. He pressed his lips together and pushed himself up. A smile coming back to his face.
"Hey Y/N, how about that sleepover tomorrow?" he called out, leaning down to grab his notebook and pencil. His eyes not leaving the woman. Y/N turned around, moving her hair out of her face as she laughed slightly and nodded.
"Sounds like a date, Webster!" she called back, giving him a thumbs up. Which she then turned and ran off. Webster ran a hand through his hair and laughed. A thought covering his mind as all he could see within his mind was the picture of Y/N's smile and the feeling of her small hands intertwined with his. He let out a heavy sigh. Realizing how fucked he probably was. He whispered to himself. As he began walking through the field, back towards his home.
"I'm in love with her."
