Sadie:
The crowd was hot and I could smell the sticky sweat all around me vibrating with the music. The band was good, really good and they seemed popular but I had never heard of them before and to be honest I can't remember their name. I wasn't able to find my friends but I didn't mind dancing by myself until they came and found me. I knew they would miss me eventually and I was still kinda pissed at Finn for ditching me to go with Jack. I mean who does that.
Before long I heard Millie beside me, she had obviously had something to drink... and it wasn't water. She was slurring her words and stumbling around like a baby deer. Jeez she needed to learn how to handle her alcohol, and we were out in public if someone took a picture.... I wanted to chide her for being irresponsible and for taking drinks from strangers. But I had known Millie long enough to know she wouldn't listen or she wouldn't care.
"Come on let's get you home," I screamed over the blasting music, all she did was nod sloppily and I thanked God that she had found me before she stumbled into some ditch. "Do you know where everyone else is?" I screamed again shaking her to look at me.
"Come on Sades have some fun, you're always so uptight," she said turning away from me and screaming at the stage with her hands up. I wasn't uptight for the record, I was responsible, who else was going to look after the losers I call friends. I took a hold of Millie's thin arm and pulled her out of the sweaty crowd. If I couldn't find the other's I'd just call an uber and we'd head back to set.Okay Sadie breathe... try calling Finn, or Sofia, or Noah. Come on Sadie you've got this. I felt the soft mud seeping into my white vans and the smell of vodka, weed and sweat became overwhelming. I felt my lungs collapsing and a panic attack was coming on but I looked into Millie's concerned eyes and swallowed the anxiety, just call him.
Against my best intentions my fingers dialed Finn's number and when he picked up I told him where we were and that he needed to hurry. I slammed my phone down on the ground and watched it slowly sunk into the upturned mud. There goes our last chance for an uber, Jesus Sadie you're so stupid. I could feel the hot tears running down my face and the panic came rushing back in. Millie sat down barely conscious on the wet grass and the thumping of the music over the speakers became unbearable.
My vision was blurred by tears but I could see the group of teenagers run up to us and I was engulfed by a lanky figure. "Sadie, God, I was so worried, what's wrong." Finn took a step back and held my face. I gulped and the anger I felt for him and Jack spiked hot and fierce in my mind. I turned away from him sharply and turned to Noah. "Millie she-she drank something, I think she got drugged or something.... I didn't know what to do. I couldn't find anyone." Noah gave me a quick squeeze before rushing over to a severely impaired Millie.
"Sadie, look at me," Finn said quietly grabbing my hand, against my best nature the anger melted away and I gripped his hand back. All my weight was put into his side as I finally relaxed. Noah helped Millie to her feet, her eyes had lost the spark she usually carried with her and she looked sick and pale. Finn held me close and whispered that everything was okay as the tears kept coming at the sight of her. "We need to get out of here unnoticed," Sofia said from under Wyatt's arm. Jack was also there but didn't say a word. "Where's Jaeden and Caleb?" I asked Finn. He said they followed some girls into the crowd and they hadn't heard from them since. I shook my head, coming here was such a bad idea.
Jack cut through our small circle to help Millie on her other side, "Alright come on let's get going." He nodded at me with acknowledgement and I knew he was trying to apologize, in his own selfish way. Everyone looked at Finn, he had become the subconscious leader of the group. He pulled me close, "We're gonna have to go through the crowd to get to the exit on the other side of the park. We need to make sure nobody sees Millie okay?" Everyone nodded and I couldn't help the excitement budding in my stomach, I felt like we were on a mission, like spies. But we weren't, this was real life and real stuff was at stake.
Our little party pushed through the crowd trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, we lost Wyatt and Sofia for a while but found them at the exit. The Caleb's car was gone, he had obviously taken Jaeden home, maybe those girls they were with too. I stopped for a bit and tried to think how that made me feel. A few months ago I would have been jealous and just the thought of him being with another girl would have put me in a bad mood for the whole day. But now as I felt Finn pressed against me I felt nothing but happy for him. I smiled at the thought, maybe we can finally be friends again. It had been so long since I had just talked to Caleb one on one, I'm sure he had missed me right? I had missed him.
One problem lay in front of us though, we had one car and seven people. Wyatt, Sofia, Finn, Jack, Noah, Millie and Me. "Okay so I'm gonna drive since it's my car and to be frank ya'll are terrible drivers," Jack and Finn tried to protest but Wyatt kept going, "Sofia, you sit up front with me. Finn, Jack and Noah can sit on the back seats and Sadie and Millie can sit on their laps. No arguing okay let's just get back." Everyone seemed to agree with the arrangement even though it was going to be a squeeze.
Noah cradled a passed out Millie and Jack sat in between him and Finn. I climbed awkwardly onto Finn's lap and he held onto my hips to keep me steady. Usually this sort of situation would make me nervous, being so close to Finn in front of our friends but my mind was too occupied to care. Suddenly an alarm went off in Millie's pocket and Finn burst out laughing.
" That's the alarm we set to remind us to get home before curfew," The mood picked up in the car but I couldn't help worrying about whether Millie would even be able to film tomorrow in the state she was in. We could all be in a hell of a lot of trouble.I was dragged out of my spiraling thoughts by Finn nuzzling his head into my neck, his hair tickled me and I couldn't help let out a small giggle. I fell asleep in his lap and the next thing I knew I was in my bed back at my trailer and I needed to be on set in 10 minutes.
