Sadie:
My mind was blank as I poked uselessly at the hash brown on my plate. I physically could not speak let alone string together a sentence. I saw Millie looking at my strangely in the corner of my eye but I ignored her. "Earth to Sadie, hello?" she waved her hand frantically in front of my face. "Is there anyone in there today?"
"Huh?" I said finally looking up at her, a dopey expression on my face.
"What's wrong with you today?"
I looked back at my hash brown and took a bite to avoid the question.
"No no," she carried on, "you were fine this morning before that big meeting. Are you sick? Did they drug you?" She said seriously in a rushed whisper.
I just smiled and nodded before turning my attention back to my breakfast and ignoring the rest of Millie's incessant questions.Millie and I walked back over to her trailer after breakfast, I did need to get some school work done but it could wait. I needed to find out what was really going on between my best friends.
"Um um what- you and Noah, what-what he say this morning," I mumbled barely making sense.
"They really did drug you, didn't they?" Millie giggled but was happy for the subject to change to her, "I didn't see him much this morning but he winked at me during the meeting and pulled me aside after, he basically said he didn't regret what happened last night. I told him I didn't either obviously but then I had to go searching for you all over the place."I laughed, and tried to push Finn out my mind for just a second, "I'm happy for you Mills, are you going to date?"
"Oh look she speaks! He hasn't asked me but I'm nervous for the whole dating thing, the only time I've ever really dated someone was Jacob Saggytits back when I was too young to even know what was happening.""You can't just go off and make me third wheel," I said sarcastically.
"Oh you'll find someone darling, why did you and Caleb break up again? He seemed pretty interested last night." She said with a wink.
"Caleb and I never worked Mills." I dead panned.
"Come on Sadie, you have to like someone, stop being such a bore." She laughed but I could tell she was trying to provoke me into telling her some sort of secret. And oh it was working one little word and that smile would be wiped right off her face. But I restrained myself and stayed quiet and shook my head. I needed to figure out my feelings and this whole thing before I go blabbing my mouth. Plus it made me feel special to have such a big secret. The day dragged on and I could feel myself becoming bored. Millie was on my nerves but I wanted to hang out with someone so badly. Noah had school work to do, which I did too but I could do it later, it was still weird with Caleb and I'm pretty sure Finn was with his friends who were still staying in a nearby hotel, they would all be here for another week or so. I hope we could all hang out again but right now I didn't want to intrude. Suddenly that gave me a great idea.
Gaten sat down with a thud on the other side of the booth. He flashed me a toothy grin and greeted me saying how much he'd missed me. Gaten and I had always been close and I'd truly been devastated when he left the show. He was doing well for himself career wise, with a movie coming up this summer, maybe getting killed off was the best thing that could've happened for him. He seemed happier now at least.
"My flight for California leaves at 7, so that gives us around an hour before I need to head off," he said with a slight lisp he still hadn't been able to shake after all these years. I smiled that was plenty of time and I thanked him for coming. He ordered a burger and I ordered a salad before we actually started the real conversation.
"So you and Finn huh?" He said with a smirk.
I gasped and leaned over the table, "How do you know, did he tell you?" Gaten laughed heartily.
"Nah I can just tell, you know?" I gave him a puzzled look but he waved me off.
"It doesn't matter to me but if you two want to keep it a secret stop being so damn obvious. Plus congrats I've been waiting for y'all to get together forever."My mouth opened and closed like a dead fish for a few seconds while I tried to find words to say.
"I-I have so many questions. 1-how are we obvious it's literally only been from last night and nobody knows yet. 2- what do you mean you've been waiting for this."Gaten just chuckled at me. "You guys were eye fucking the entire night and Finn has had a crush on you forever, Like forever, I shouldn't tell you this but I remember before Caleb before anything. We were probably like 14 and you had just joined the show but he wouldn't stop talking about you." I could feel my cheeks turn rosy and my blood run hot. Our food arrived and I was relieved to have something to fiddle with so I didn't need to look at Gaten. "Why didn't he ever tell me?"
Gaten sighed, "I mean Sadie in a few months you were all over Caleb and Finn isn't stupid, he knows when to back off." with a shrug of his shoulders the topic was dropped and the conversation turned more to his new life in California.Apparently he had just landed a huge commercial and his team had just started prep for the promotion for his new movie. His life seemed so exciting compared to mine. Unfortunately an hour passes quickly among old friends and soon Gaten assured me that he should be on his way if he was going to make his flight. He left me with a half finished salad and twenty dollar note to cover the bill. We hugged and I told him I would miss him, he just laughed and said I should visit LA more. I promised I would and before I knew it I was all alone again staring at the salad I felt too guilty not to eat.
