"Looks like we're stuck together for the next month," Calum smirked.
The day after Dylan and Jordan's car ride date, Dylan had woken up with a newfound exhilaration. For the first time in weeks, Dylan had felt okay. His constant train of thoughts that always seemed to bring him down had vanished as he got ready that day. He wore his favorite tan-colored shirt with some matching tan colored socks and headed to school.
Even in his car ride to school, he had played his happy vibes playlist instead of his usual monotoned depressing music.
All of that happy ammunition and bursting exhilaration came crashing to a halt when Ms. Katrina had paired Dylan with Calum for the new English group project.
Dylan had scoffed at Calum's comment, "Oh, wouldn't you like that. Listen, this English project is not an excuse for whatever you're doing to go on any longer."
Calum placed his hand under his chin, "I mean, who knows? Maybe this English project might bring us closer."
Dylan shook his head with an exaggerated sigh, " I highly doubt that. Listen, I think we should work strictly at school so we don't get involved in each other's lives more than we need to."
Calum rolled his eyes, "Come on, Carlson, I may be interested in you but I'm not going to kidnap you or something."
Dylan shook his head, "Can you stop calling me that?"
As Calum moved so he was now sitting next to Dylan he furrowed his eyebrows, "Carlson? I always call you that. It's the nickname I made for you."
Dylan sighed, "Whatever, can we get started on the project?"
The project that Ms. Katrina had assigned for the kids in her English class was to analyze and present the different ways the theme of love was displayed in the classic Shakespearean novel, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Ms. Katrina was a hopeless romantic herself, and she often assigned this project to reminisce on her first time reading the novel.
The boys spent the rest of the class skimming through the novel in hopes of finding a quote or a paragraph that served as something that they could use in their project. If they found anything, they would highlight it with a yellow highlighter.
Dylan began to think of Jordan's reaction when he had to explain that he and Calum were to be working together on a school project. Jordan was never the jealous type, but something about Calum ticked him off. He found it incredibly rude and arrogant of Calum to continue to chase Dylan when it was made pretty clear that he wasn't available.
Calum had always known that Dylan would never see him romantically in any way shape or form, but he felt like the constant chase of persuing him was his one chance of being close to him. He knew it wasn't right to Jordan, but he didn't really care about anyone's opinions when it came to Dylan.
Calum's infatuation with Dylan had begun in his sophomore year of high school when he had noticed him in the hallways. In the beginning, Calum's fascination with Dylan was only a small crush and he never really pursued him, but at a certain point, his friends had all found out about his little crush and had teased him about it constantly as Calum was never one to have silly crushes. Calum's friends had made it plainly obvious about his feelings towards Dylan by snickering when he had walked passed them or by shoving him towards Dylan to try and force a conversation. Soon enough, the entire grade knew about Calum's silly crush on the quiet boy, and instead of shying away from it, Calum embraced it. And that didn't stop when Dylan began dating Jordan.
When the bell rang, Dylan had made it apparent to leave as quickly as he could by shoving the book in his school bag and pushing his chair in. "See you next class, and please actually do the reading."
