"Who beat you up over the weekend?"Jordan had walked into the school hallways with the intention of grabbing his textbooks from his locker and going back to his car to study. He didn't feel like interacting with anyone at school but when he was stopped by an over-worried Cara, he had no choice but to respond to her. "It's nothing. I just haven't slept well this past couple of days."

A wave of concern washed over Cara's face, "Why? What's wrong?" Cara had noticed that both boys have completely distanced over the weekend, but she would've never assumed anything was wrong between them.

Jordan sighed and shook his head, "Dylan..." he hesitated, "Dylan broke up with me, so... I don't know... I don't want to talk about it."

Cara gasped and she held her hand over her gaping mouth, "What?" She walked towards Jordan before comforting him in a tight hug, "What happened between you guys?"

Jordan scoffed, "Dylan said he needed some space," he made a confused expression, "or that he wasn't good for me... I don't know."

Cara reached out for Jordan's hands and frowned at her best friend, "Do you want to talk about it after school?" Jordan nodded, too afraid that if he spoke he wouldn't be able to finish his sentence.

Dylan hadn't slept all night and the fact that he had school in a couple of hours made it even harder for him to fall asleep. He had thought about skipping the school day, but he didn't want to explain the whole situation to his parents. They would have made it a bigger deal than it already was. Although, he did have to ask his mom to take him to school that morning since Jordan wasn't going to anymore. "Mom, can you take me to school?"

His mother placed the book down and chuckled at the offer. She had thought it was a joke or something, "Isn't Jordan going to take you?"

Dylan shook his head, "No... he has a doctors appointment today," Dylan's mother had nodded her head, "Ok honey, I can take you. Just let me get dressed."

Dylan had felt a rush of anxiety the entire ride to school. He had gone to school with Jordan every day for the past three months and he didn't know how to act without him. He didn't know how to behave around Cara and Jeremy, now that there was an awkward tension around him and Jordan.

Surprisingly, the only moment he felt like he could breathe was in English class with Calum. Both of them were nearing the end of the book and were prepared to have the project complete by the end of this week. Dylan had distracted himself in the book, trying to culminate as many pieces of evidence he could find while Calum had stared at the boy in front of him with complete worry.

Dylan looked miserable. The bags under his eyes had turned into a dark shade and they looked more prominent than ever. His hair had been messily made this morning, and even Calum could tell the lack of care in Dylan's hygiene.

Calum wanted to ask if Dylan was okay, but that questioned didn't bode well the last time he had asked. He coughed under his breath, "Carlson, how was your weekend?"

Dylan had put the book away slowly before looking at Calum. He had wondered how to answer that question because his weekend was not the greatest, to say the least. "It was..." Dylan thought, "My weekend was okay, I guess.

Calum nodded, "Did..." he hesitated, "Did anything happen in particular?"

Dylan scoffed, "What is that supposed to mean?"

Calum held his hands in front of his chest in defeat, "Nothing, I was just asking," he cleared his throat, "Is everything okay?"

Dylan looked down and played with his fingers. That was a weighty question because nothing was okay in his life. "Yes, I'm fine," he seethed.
