Nailea stood behind the counter dancing along to the song that was playing from the speakers of the gas station. She found out how to connect her phone to the speakers, right now she was dancing to 'Pictures of Girls by The Wallows.' She loved the song, it made her feel like she was in the 60s and had not one care in the whole wide world.
She felt as if she was the only person in the world, this was only because no one had come into the gas station since 10:30 and it was currently 11:34. So she felt as if no one was going to walk in on her dancing around behind the counter.
But she was very wrong, she soon heard the ding of the door and she stopped dead in her tracks of busting out her next dance move she faced forward and tried to make it seem like she wasn't dancing just 30 seconds ago. "Hi welcome to Mobil." She smiled, she focused on the boy and saw that it was Alejandro. "Well hello to you to Nailea." He laughed, Nailea's face heated up out of embarrassment.
Alejandro didn't mind walking in on her dancing, he thought it was quite cute.
Alejandro's life at home seemed to be getting worse. His mom began yelling at him everyday for what seemed like nothing, not doing the dishes, not walking the dog, and not cleaning his room. He thought she was just letting her stress out on him, she worked at a hospital as a nurse and during covid-19 she seemed to basically lived there, and when she would come home she'd sleep all day and yell at Alejandro.
Alejandro walked to the candy aisle while thinking about this, he knew his mom was stressed but he thought it gave her no right to yell at him like this. He knew what he wanted and it was Sour Patch Kids. He grabbed two bags of them and walked to the refrigerators to get an Arizona Tea.
He happily walked to the register where Nailea waited for him. "Well good afternoon Alejandro." She smiled as she scanned his items. "Technically good morning." He said with a smile as he pointed to the clock. All he got in return was a playful eye roll from Nailea.
Alejandro looked at the girl with heart eyes, he thought she was the prettiest girl to walk earth. As for Nailea, she thought Alejandro was the most handsome boy she had ever seen. The two teens didn't know that they both thought this. But if they did they both would be the happiest people on earth.
"That'll be five dollars and fifty seven cents." Nailea said looking at Alejandro. Alejandro handed her a ten from his sweatpants pockets and Nailea gave him his change once she gathered it. Alejandro grabbed his items as Nailea spoke, "Have a great rest of your night Alejandro." She smiled, Alejandro loved how she said his name, it gave him butterflies.
"You too Nailea." He said with a bright smile. He was walking towards the door but he wasn't satisfied. He was satisfied with what he got but something was missing. "Actually Nailea," He said, turning around, "Do you have a phone number?" He asked nervously as he felt his cheeks get hot.
Nailea felt like she was in a dream, under the counter she even pinched the inside of her thigh to make sure she wasn't dreaming. When she felt the small pain a pink tone washed over her face. Alejandro thought she wasn't going to give him her number because of how long she was taking. "Sorry, I shouldn't have asked." Alejandro quickly said, as he turned around and walked out fastly.
Nailea sat there dumbfounded at what she just did.
