𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐬 behind the counter scrolling through her phone. It was a slow night, no one seemed to be out and about tonight.

it upset her because it didn't give her anything to do but scroll through tiktok.

Nailea and Alejandro haven't talked since last Saturday, she didn't know if it was good to text him because he seemed short with her.

She cared a lot about the boy but knew when it was a good time to back off and give someone space.

Nailea was soon disturbed by the sound of the ding when the door opens, she quickly put her phone in her back pocket and spoke,

"Hi welcome to Mobil."

She smiled and was meant with Alejandro looking down at the ground,

"hey Nailea."

Alejandro walked over to the candy aisle, his head still hanging low. He stood in front of all the candy bags. But tonight they didn't seem very bright. Everything seemed black and white recently. Nothing was gold  like before.

His eyes felt heavy. Like bags were under them with weights. The boy was drained of everything. He was almost like a zombie. He didn't feel anything anymore.

Before he had come to the gas station his mom was hitting him repeatedly. His nose dripped with blood and his left eye was swollen shut. Alejandro didn't know his mother could hit so hard. But the hits didn't hurt Alejandro as much as what she had yelled at him.

"You are worthless! You aren't going to go anywhere in life you piece of shit!"

Alejandro could take nasty words like this because he was a social media influencer but when it came from someone he actually knew it hurt a lot more.

He grabbed two bags of sour patch kids and walked to the counter, placing both the bags on the cold counter. Still not making eye contact with the girl he adored the most. He didn't want her to see him like this.

He pulled a five out of his pocket and put it on the counter. But Nailea didn't take it.

"Ale what's wrong?"

"I'm fine, what are you talking about Nail."

Maybe Nailea should have left it at that.

The boy still wouldn't look at Nailea. But Nailea wanted to know why. She gently grabbed the boy's chin and lifted his face up.

What she saw made her heart shatter into millions of pieces.

"Oh my god Alejandro what happened?"

Nailea had worries written all over her face, Alejandro knew there was no way out of this one. He had no excuse for why he was so beaten up. There wasn't really an excuse.

"Nailea just give me my change."

"Not until you tell me what happened."

"Nailea..."

"No ale tell me what-"

"God fucking damn it Nailea! Will you stop bugging me about it! Mind your damn business!"

Alejandro swiped the two bags of candy and looked at Nailea,

"Keep the change."

The boy spoke sternly, and turned quickly storming out the door.

Nailea stood there in shock, thoughts raced her mind. Did she ask too many times? Was she getting into his business?

Maybe she let her worries get to her head, but all Nailea thought was about how much she cared about that boy.
