[Ginny's POV]

One thing I'll never stop appreciating is not only Manon's never-ending hospitality, but also her ability to forgive easily. She's thoroughly put our fight beside her, no problem.

"So," she begins slowly, "what really happened on the night.. the night Cody ended things?"

A month ago I'd snarl some insult at her, but post depression me answers with "Oh, such bullshit. He gives me some ridiculous tale about him being a vampire," I snort, "then tells me other vampire folks are trying to get to him through me, and that I've been having seizures because of that. So he has to distance himself from me to 'protect' me." I snigger again.

"You're kidding? What's he been smoking?"

I laugh. "Search me."

"And you've not seen him since? I mean, he lives in your neighbourhood, doesn't he?"

"Vanished off the face of the earth. Good riddance, if you ask me." I fumble with my pyjamas.

"But, Gin.. you were head over heels for that lad! You told me you thought he could be the one, remember? And he's simply thrown all that away?" Manon looks too concerned for the situation.

"Manon, chill. I've thought loads of guys could be 'the one'," I lie.

In fact, that wasn't just half true, it was downright false. I've never thought of a guy as the one. Just Cody. In that moment, the crushing feeling of never seeing him again feels more like a heavy burden than it did before.

"Let's get to bed," I say quickly, getting up and averting my gaze away from her.

"Wait, but-"

"I'm tired, M. C'mon." I pull my sleeping bag over me and roll over so I'm not facing her.

"Good night, Gin," she whispers.

"G'night, M," I breathe back.

I punch my pillow into a more comfortable shape and we both doze off without another word. Seconds later, or so it feels, I awaken. Slightly lightheaded and overwhelmingly peaceful, I sit up, feeling blissfully calm and soothed. Amazed by this newfound pleasant state of mind, I suddenly yearn to leave, to head home. Immense determination passes over me and I slip out of my sleeping bag. Manon gives a loud snore but stays fast asleep. Pulling a coat over my pajamas and cramming all my belongings in my rucksack, I take off home. The cold air outside cuts through me like a knife, but for some reason my body gives no apparent reaction and steers me fast paced through the streets. Numb with cold, I reach my front door and aggressively thrust the key in the keyhole, for reasons unbeknownst to me. Again, I want to give a cry of agony, but my body gives no response. It seems like I've lost any control over my body at all. Heart pounding, my legs steer me briskly inside.

"Well, well, well," comes a blood-chilling voice from the corner, followed by a high, cold cackle that turns my stomach over.

To be continued...
