[Ginny's POV]

Swishing cloaks everywhere, out of the darkness step over a dozen hooded figures. I swallow audibly. I'm completely surrounded. The blissful peacefulness from a moment ago's been replaced by cold sweat and my heart beating rapidly against my chest. Not wanting to beat around the bush, I say fiercely,

"Who are you and what the hell d'you think you're doing inside my house?"

From my left comes a high-pitched shriek of laughter. "Oh, she knows how to play, little one!"

I go to pinch myself and escape this horrid nightmare, but I'm stopped by an appalling voice from behind me.

"Delicious girl.. What a treat. Come over, pretty one, let me inspect your darling neck?" The relish in his tone makes my flesh crawl.

"Easy there, Ulric..." whispers a woman's voice.

"Don't bite just yet... We've got some questions for you, lovely..."

"Like what?" I say boldly.

"Like your relationship with dear Cody.. we've got a bone to pick with either of you," interjects a low voice.

"Cody?" I give a shout of laughter, knowing it'll infuriate them. "We're not seeing each other anymore. We broke up months ago."

"Lies!" shrieks the woman on the left again.

"I'm not lying!" I say angrily, my eyes narrowing.

"As you'll see, pretty one, you're outnumbered over a dozen to one. We want some truth out of you, or we unleash our dear Ulric."

Knowing what savagery'll come from 'dear Ulric', I stay silent, unsure now.

"I said," the low-voiced man comes nose to nose, towering over me. "We're expecting some honesty! Spit it out!"

Following his order, my temper gets the better of me and I spit in his face. It's instantly clear that I've gone too far. Two hands grope me roughly and pull me toward them. I feel hot breath on my neck, a mouth with sharp fangs dripping with blood nearing...

"Stop!" says a softer woman's voice sharply. "She's telling the truth."

I'm released by the rough hands at once. The woman that reveals herself seems vaguely familiar. I've seen photos of her pop up on Cody's phone before.

"What now, Mohegan?" growls Ulric.

"I said she's telling the truth. Not only do I smell fresh blood like the rest of you lot, I sense a young heart that's received a recent heartbreak. It aches for him."

I feel my face burn red. My heart aches for Cody? Why do these creeps know so much?

"Oh, no matter," says the low voice, waving the comment away. "Truth or not, this darling mortal needs punishment..."

I don't hear the rest of what he has to say, however, because my head suddenly gets clouded so abruptly I stumble a bit. Quickly regaining my balance, I detect my vision's gotten blurry and everything's out of focus.

Listen... I have to make it quick...

A sharp intake of breath announces my surprise to hearing a misty woman's voice in my head. My foggy senses tell me it's the vampire who saved me earlier.. Mohegan.

Stay calm... Please... They must not know we're communicating...

Suspicious but willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, I reposition myself firmly and stare straight ahead.

I can buy you some time... After this connection is broken, I will summon a portal to your porch... You will be transported away... Where they cannot find you... When it is safe to return, I will inform you so... I will hold them off... Be quick...

Mohegan's voice slowly dies away. I regain my senses and my vision sharpens again. Mohegan shares a swift look with me, initiating for me to carry out her plan. I take a small step back, ready to pounce, but..

Without warning, I hear the door burst open behind me and a strong gust of wind rushes in, ruffling the bottom of my skirt.

"Like hell!"

Only the sound of that voice could've made me whirl around as aggressively as I did. It's the voice I've yearned for the last months. The voice that, perhaps, though I wouldn't like to admit it, has kept me going these past months. The voice that's eternally etched in my brain, like an everlasting melody that'll feed me hope. The voice that, according to Mohegan, a potential ally, my heart aches for...

To be continued...
