[Ginny's POV]

I awaken to the sweet scent I so fondly remember as Cody's hair. The feel of his skin still lingering, I turn over to greet him. Except-

"Cody?" I say groggily.

No Cody. Had he- Don't be so paranoid, Ginny, I tell myself sternly. He's in the bathroom. Go and get breakfast ready. And so I stroll, still half asleep, to my kitchen. Breakfast is not to be, however, as my cabinets and everything from plates to pots are still smashed to bits. Cody must have some repair spell he can perform, I think in my state of grogginess. He regrew half the bones in my ankle last night. Mending plates must be a piece of cake. Cake... chocolate cake. Birthday cake. Birthday gifts...

"Miele!" I say suddenly. "Miele! Where is she?"

But Miele happens to be a cat, not a dog, and does not come to me on command. I snatch up one of her bells and shake it. Moments later, my furry companion returns with soft meows, clawing at the still chiming bell. She's managed to steer clear of the terror that was last night, and came away with minor scratches.

"Miele!" I pick her up and scratch her behind her fuzzy white ears. "You haven't seen Cody, have you?"

But she just stares blankly back at me, my confused expression reflected in her azure eyes. Sighing, I place her down and grasp my phone. No missed calls from Cody. No missed texts from Cody. No nothing from Cody. My temper starts to rise and I angrily scroll down my screen to call him. No answer.

"Cody!" I shout. "Joke's over! Come out, wherever you are!"

No thumping footsteps hurrying down the stairs. No flash of ginger hair coming to greet me. No sudden warm hand on my shoulder. No shout of assurance of his presence.

"Cody!" I screech, my throat now aching.

Silence. Time for plan B: phoning 911. Or rather, my own 911.

"Manon?" I say, my voice still slightly damaged from all the shouting.

"What's up, G?"

"Can I come over?" I ask, thinking fast. My problem'd be better talked about face to face.

"Er-" she hesitates.

"Bad time?"

"No, just... I have a guest. If you'd mind having them there."

I can't see her, but I can tell she's blushing.

"Sure," I reply, intrigued by this mystery person.

"Well... see ya."

I hang up. She sounded nervous, I think to myself. Who's making Manon this flustered?

To be continued...
