after school you were pretty much exhausted, Mr. Phillips lesson was so boring and he constantly called on you. so when class was dismissed, you couldn't wait to go home.

"hey, Y/n, how's your hand doing?" you turned around to see Billy Andrews, scratching his neck as he waited for your answer.

"it's fine, it doesn't hurt that bad anymore," you lied, looking at your hand. "thanks for, standing up for me."

"oh yea, of course, why were you defending that weirdo anyway?" Billy asked as you both grabbed your coats.

you scoffed "because he's my friend, and he's not a weirdo," you said and with that you walked out of the schoolhouse.

"hey Y/n wait! I'm sorry," Billy said as he came running after you. "can I walk with you?"

you sighed, "suit yourself." you said, not looking at him as you walked on in silence.

"so, uhm, you and Blythe, huh?" Billy said after a few seconds.

"what about us?" you asked, still avoiding eye contact.

"are you guys together or what?" Billy asked, studying your face.

"no we aren't, I rejected him, I don't like him like that," you said, plainly.

"you must be the only girl who's not into Blythe," Billy said chuckling.

"I guess so," you mumbled.

"so why aren't you? is there someone else?" Billy asked, gulping.

"well I can't control my feelings, trust me if I could I would be with Gilbert right now, I hate hurting his feelings," you said, now finally looking at Billy. "wasn't that your turn?"

"oh, uh, right," he said scratching the back of his neck.

"look, Billy just because you stood up for me doesn't mean I automatically like you, maybe try acting like a decent human being and stop making fun of people just for being a little different," you said, causing Billy to gulp.

he nodded, "yea, sorry, I'll see you tomorrow," he said, turning around.

"see you tomorrow," you said, as you walked on, sighing.

when you came home, your mother was making tea, only she seemed to have been drinking again.

"good afternoon mom," you said as you took of your coats and threw your bags to the side.

"afternoon, sweetheart," she said, slightly slurring her worss as she put a cup of tea on the table for you.

"thank you, where's Tyler?" you asked, as you sat down to drink your tea.

"he's studying," your mother said, "he asked me not to disturb him." she washed her hands and then sat down in front of you.

"oh okay, I should probably study as well," you said, scratching your forehead, you fekt uncomfortable in your mothers presence.

"dear, what happened to your hand!?" she said snatching your hand away to look at it.

"it's nothing, my teacher hates me is all," you said, sighing.

"what did you do, darling you have to follow the rules!" your mother exclaimed.

"I was only standing up for a friend, who got punished for no good reason," you said pulling your hand back. "I cleaned it at lunch, so don't worry."

"try and stay out of trouble," your mother said, "what is it your friend did anyway."

"Cole got punished for styling Anne's hair, I simply thought that was ridiculous."
