I'm so happy that Joy managed to get a hold of Wendy so she could come here. Even though it's barely been a day, I've missed her in ways I can't imagine. I missed seeing her, I missed hugging her, I missed kissing her, I just missed the feeling of her being next to me all the time. Now we can work together to stop Jennie so I can go back to my apartment.
"Well, what's the plan?" Wendy asks.
"It's not that impressive, so don't get too excited," Taehyung says. "So, we know that Jennie has done more than just piss people off in the past. She's been caught several times doing drugs and vaping in the school bathrooms, but she was never reported because of how much power her father has."
"Wait, she does drugs?" I ask. "Since when?"
Joy laughs. "Since like, seventh grade."
"Wasn't that the grade where they told us a million reasons not to do drugs?" Wendy asks.
"Yeah," Taehyung says. "Anyway, we can use this against her. There aren't cameras in the bathroom stalls, but there are cameras in the general sink area, and because Jennie's stupid, she always did them in the general area outside the stalls. Once we figure out a way to access the school's security footage, we can download those videos and combine them with everything else she's done."
"Sounds good," Wendy says. "But what if her father does something to get her out of it again?"
"He won't because we're going to the police," Joy says. "The only people that couldn't do anything were the teachers, but the police have more power since they're the police, duh."
"When are we doing it?" Wendy asks.
"The best time we can do it is tomorrow," Taehyung says. "We'll be at school and our goal is to attract attention, that way everyone will bring up all the things Jennie's done to them."
"Tomorrow is the soonest you can do it?" I ask.
"Well, technically, we can do it today," he says. "But it would work best for tomorrow because we'll attract more attention, as I said. Do you want us to do it today?"
I shake my head. "No, it's okay. Just take your time."
"Okay, we'll get going then," Joy says. "I need to tell Yeri and Seulgi about what we're doing."
"Ditto," Taehyung says. "I need to tell Yoongi and the boys."
"You're getting them in on this?" Joy asks.
"Hell yeah," he says. "They've had a grudge against Jennie for years, and since they all think that Irene and I are dating they hate her even more for "hurting my girlfriend," you know?"
I laugh. "At least they're loyal."
Taehyung nods. He and Joy begin to walk off, but Joy stops and turns around. "Wendy, are you coming?"
Wendy swallows and clears her throat. I can't help but smile, Joy's teasing her now. She heaves a sigh, "I think I'm going to stay here for now. I can go back on my own."
Joy starts laughing and turns back around, catching up with Taehyung. I look back at Wendy, smiling happily. She immediately hugs me again. "Don't do that, God."
"She would've ruined your life," I say, wrapping my arms around her back. "I'd already put so much-"
"Stop," she says. "Stop saying you put pressure on me. You don't, okay? You've done nothing but make my life better since the moment you stepped in. You think so harshly of yourself when you're an amazing person who's good at everything. So stop, please. It makes me worry that you'll do worse than run away."
She squeezes me tighter. I swallow. I didn't know she felt like that. It's true, I do criticize myself a lot, but doesn't everyone? I didn't know she was ever worried about me doing something worse. I know I've been through a lot and it might seem like someone like me would go down that path, but I'm better than that. I could never leave my mother alone. "I'm sorry," I whisper. She lets go of me but still stands quite close.
"It's okay," Wendy says. "Just please, don't do that again. You scared the shit out of me, Irene. I went to Jennie's house just to try and get information out of her."
"You went to her house?" I ask out of disbelief. "How did she let you in?"
"Her maid let me in," she says. "And of course I would go to her house, even if she'd only give me the most useless piece of information to where you are, because I love you, Irene."
I stare. "What?"
"I heard what you said," she says. "At the hospital. I said it back, but you were falling asleep. I love you, Irene, and I'm certain of it. Please, don't do that again," she hits my shoulder.
I kiss her. I don't do it harshly like I did that one time in the school bathroom, I do it softly, because I love her, too. I've loved her since last year, and I won't ever stop. I pull away after a while and I swear I hear Wendy let out a small whine.
"You should probably go now," I say. "Meet up with the others."
"But I want to-"
"I'll be fine," I say. "Besides, if the plan doesn't end up working, I need to adjust to my new living space."
She looks down and is silent for a bit. Then she finally asks, "Are you going to tell your mother?"
I bite my lip. "If I'm being honest, I think she already knows."
Her eyes widen. "What? How?"
"When I was at the hospital the day before you came to pick me up, she asked me if there was anything I wanted to tell her about you," I say. "I said no, but from the tone in her voice she seemed like she didn't care. What about your parents?"
"I don't know about them," Wendy says. "I feel like they'll be mad for a bit, but then they'll be okay. I should probably tell them after the entire Jennie thing is over. I might have to stay with you this time for a while."
I laugh. "Hopefully not."
"Well, then, I'll get going," Wendy says. "I'll see you tomorrow, hopefully."
"Bye," I say as she walks off.
