My eyes slowly flutter open as I stretch my arms and yawn. I grab my phone off the nightstand next to my bed and check the time. It's only nine, and it's a Saturday. I'll sleep in for a little bit longer. I take a deep breath and roll to the other side of the bed, but there's something different.
Wendy is right next to me.
I sit up. Why is she in my bed? I look around. I'm in her room. Why am I in her room? Wait. I had a weird dream last night.
I had a dream that I took Wendy to the bridge and I told her how I felt, and when I started to cry and walk away, she grabbed me and kissed me.
Did that actually happen? No, there's no way actually happened. My heart leaps as I look back at Wendy. She's sleeping peacefully. It fills me with joy.
Both of our phones beep. I guess there was a text in our group chat? I grab my phone and go to the group chat that has me, Wendy, Joy, Seulgi, and Yeri.
Y: so Irene
Y: anything new happen lately?
I: what?
S: did anything interesting happen
S: like at all
I: no..?
Y: ur bad at lying
I: what
S: omg I don't think she knows we know
S: Yeri you dumbass
S: I told you we should've waited
Y: omg I'm sorry ok
Y: I just wanted to hear her side of the story
I: wtf are you two talking about
S: nothing
S: why are you awake
S: it's too early
Y: yea go back to bed
I roll my eyes, and I hear Wendy groan from beside me. I jump and put my phone away, looking at her. Her eyes flutter open as she stretches her arms. She sees me sitting up and instantly smiles. "Hi."
I quickly get out of her bed. "Sorry. I somehow ended up in here, I don't know how-"
"You thought it was a dream, didn't you?" Wendy asks, sitting up.
"Thought what was a dream?" I ask, chuckling nervously.
"You couldn't lie to save your life," Wendy says. "Come here."
I sit back on the bed and she hugs me. My heart wants to explode. She lets go of me and stares at me lovingly. I guess last night wasn't a dream. Last night really happened?
"So I wasn't dreaming?" I ask, putting my hand over hers.
"No," Wendy says. "Everything happened for real, and I don't regret a thing."
She leans in slightly and I take the hint. I move my head forwards and kiss her, placing my hand just between her neck and cheek. She wraps her arms around my back, sending a shock through my body. She gets closer to me. So close that I can feel her heart beating.
One of our phones beep, causing both of us to jump and pull away. We both laugh to ourselves, checking our phones. "It's for you," she says.
"Yeah," I say. It's a text from Taehyung.
Wendy gets up. "I'm gonna go downstairs and eat breakfast. Do you wanna do something later?"
"Like what?" I ask.
She smiles. "I don't know. Go for another walk? The best things seem to happen when we go on walks."
I smile. "Okay."
I open my messages and read Taehyung's text.
T: so, how did it go?
I: really well, actually
T: really? How so?
I laugh to myself. Should I tell him?
I: oh, you know
I: it went well
T: no I don't know
T: tell me
I: it went well
T: yes but how did she react
I: she kissed me
I immediately turn my phone on silent and leave it on the bed. I can hear the constant buzzing coming from my phone as I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth. He even calls me at one point.
I go downstairs and find my mother sitting at the kitchen table eating some cereal. Wendy is standing next to the toaster, sipping tea from a cup. I wrap my arms around my mother from behind and kiss her cheek. "Good morning, mom."
"Good morning, Baechu," she says.
I turn red. I let go of my mom and make eye contact with Wendy, who tries not to laugh.
"Mom, I told you not to call me that in front of other people," I mutter.
"Don't get mad at her, only I heard it," Wendy says. As I walk by her to get a glass for myself, she whispers, "Don't expect me to not use that."
Even though it annoys me, I smile at her. The reason I hate getting called Baechu so much is because that's what my dad used to call me. I let my mother call me the name because she loved my dad so much, and the name is practically the only thing she has to remind her of him. My mother finishes eating her breakfast and heads to the lounge area with a book.
"Are your parents always at work?" I ask, sitting down with a bowl of cereal.
"They're doctors, what do you expect?" Wendy asks, joining me with French toast.
I shrug. We finish eating breakfast and go back up to Wendy's room. I pick up my phone and look at the messages Taehyung sent to me.
T: WHAT
T: REALLY
T: OMG
T: HOLY SHIT
T: WOAH
T: HOW WAS IT
T: WHY AREN'T YOU ANSWERING ME
T: HELLO
T: YOU SUCK
I laugh to myself and show Wendy the stream of texts. She laughs, too. We both sit on her bed awkwardly.
I open my mouth to say something but she opens hers, too. "You go first," she says.
I swallow. "Should we, um," I say. "Continue?"
Wendy turns red. "Oh- I was going to suggest we watch another episode of that show-"
Oh my God. I'm such a pervert. I can't believe I just asked her that. I turn red and I get hot again. Wendy notices my expression. "We could, though-"
"No, it's fine," I say, smiling nervously. "You're right, let's just watch another episode of the show."
"Okay," Wendy says, opening her laptop. I rest my head on her shoulder and get underneath the blankets. Wendy presses play and the second episode of the drama begins.
